Those of us that do place a flag on our porch forget that there is a flag etiquette and completly ignore it like it means nothing. for those of you who don't know here are just a few examples.
1) If the flag is hanging and it is dark outside, place a light to illuminate the flag. If you cannot afford to illuminate the flag, very simple, bring it in doors over night.
2) If the flag is tattered and torn, replace the flag. Do not allow the flag to continue to wave in a ratty condition. This of course does not apply to historical flags.
3) when replacing a flag, handle the flag properly and dispose of it properly as well. If you are unsure of how to do so, see any VFW hall in your local area and they would be more than happy to explain how.
These are just a few examples of what I am seeing and it is disgusting me to see this. I am seeing foriegn flags handing being taken care of in a better fashion than I am our own National flag.
The reason for this article today is that I am extremely upset at what I am seeing lately and something recently has put me over the top. I am a huge Monday Night Football fan and what they did on Monday 11-26-07 just made me sick. They actually decided to begin the Steelers vs Dolphins game without the National Anthem being played just to save 2 minutes of air time and begin the game. this particular night there were several storms that had delayed the game so they were running behind on schedule.
I say there is no excuse for this and there is no excuse for not being a patriot in your own country. If you do not agree with the president, you have that right, if you do not agree with the war, you have that right, if you do not agree with the laws, you have that right, if you do not agree with what I am saying, you have that right. But lets not forget why you have that right and be proud of what has been done to give you those rights.
God bless all those who fought, and who are fighting to provide us with the rights that we have today.
