Patriots' Willie Andrews Arrested, TMZ Says

Willie Andrews - Patriot's Kick Returner - in Trouble

Chris Knight
Willie Andrews has been arrested on charges of marijuana possession. He was at Lowell Massachusetts at the time. He was arrested during a traffic stop while driving an unregistered vehicle - definitely not a smart move by the former Baylor Bear. According to the Boston Herald, he was carrying a significant amount of marijuana at the time of the traffic stop. Prosecutors say that he had "$6800 in cash, three bags of marijuana, and no means to smoke the drugs". It is extremely hard to understand why a multi-million dollar football player would stoop down to selling drugs and risk the future of his football career. The 24 year old, 7th round pick of the 2006 draft pleads not guilty.

This isn't the first time that Patriots' KR/Safety Willie Andrews has been in trouble, as he has spent 30 days in jail prior to his freshman year at Baylor due to a probation violation. It just keeps getting worse for the Patriots as one of their good Kick Returners may be going to prison - once again. Andrews is due in court March 18th for a pre-trial conference. He will also be disciplined by the New England Patriots. This comes just one day after coming home from the heart-breaking loss to the New York Giants

This isn't the first time that a team has had a player experience Super bowl woes:

Eugene Robinson
This was probably worse than the Willie Andrews case, as Eugene Robinson tried to pay a prostitute $40 for oral sex. It's a great thing that prostitute was really an undercover officer, otherwise Eugene Robinson could have gotten an STD. Instead he was charged with solicitation. The bad thing about it was that Eugene wasn't the only Atlanta Falcon to perform deeds with a prostitute - it was that he was the only who got caught.

After this incident, Eugene Robinson would play in the Super bowl and get burnt by Rod smith for an 80 yard touchdown - putting a huge damper on the season. It's alarming that a multi-millionaire, NFL player would have to stoop to prostitution in order to have his sexual needs satisfied, however, Eugene chose to do it, and ultimately ruin his reputation in the NFL.

Ray Lewis
Ray Lewis' image was put to the test after his Baltimore Ravens had defeated the New York Giants in dominant fashion. Two people by the name of Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar had died from stab wounds in a fight during the party. Ray Lewis was part of the fight, and told the limo driver to stay quiet about everything. Oakley - one of Lewis' companions had stated "I stabbed mine". Ray Lewis was also under the microscope when Evelyn Sparks said that she saw a passenger dump a laundry bag into the garbage can - it contained a white suit with blood on it - Ray Lewis and his companions were brought in for murder and aggravated assault.

Even though this isn't talked about much, it is still a stain on Ray Lewis' hall of fame career. He would later give 1,000,000 to the 4 year old India Lollar - who was born 4 months after her father was slain during the party. He would also have several endorsements pulled - that most super bowl MVP's would receive

Barrett Robbins
Do you remember when the Oakland Raiders received the beatdown of their lifetime when they played their old coach and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? Part of the reason why the Raiders lost was the simple fact that there was a complete lack of protection. This could have been because their starting center was in Tijuana, Mexico due to severe bi-polar syndrome. Due to self medication (alcohol) - his bi-polar syndrome reached an all-time low, and it could not have been timed any worse. He didn't come to the meetings the day before, and he was completely absent during the game.

Barrett Robbins would later get shot at three times, later in his career. He would survive the attack, however - after the Super bowl, his career would never be the same.

Although Willie Andrew's incident may seem pretty bad, he is certainly not the first one to get in a great deal trouble during the Super Bowl - and he's probably not going to be the last. Let's hope that NFL players learn from their counterparts from the past.

I grew up in the same home town where Willie Andrews grew up and went to the same high school in Longview, Texas. For the life of me, I do not know how someone who is making the type of income that he is making in the NFL would put their career in jepordy for $6,800 and is charged with intent to distribute. It just doesn't make sense? Then again, he did plead not guilty is so unless a court of law proves otherwise, I do wish this young man well and hope that whatever the outcome is that he learns a valuable lesson from this experience.

I personally don't view the Andrews situation to be much of a crime. Maybe it is a values thing.
