Patton Museum at Ft. Knox

Fun Place to Visit

A scenic three hour drive from Indianapolis to Ft. Knox, Kentucky will take you to the General George Patton Museum. The drive is a nice, pleasant drive through Southern Indiana and across the Ohio River. If you stay on I-65 you will travel through downtown Louisville. The museum is on 31W (Dixie Highway) a little south of the US 60 intersection.

As you go up the walkway to the museum, about a 2 block walk, you will pass Armor Memorial Park which is a memorial dedicated to the soldiers who fought with each armor division in the wars of the twentieth century. You are able to walk through and read the stones.

The museum is very nice. It is filled with very interesting displays. Lots of the displays are actual articles used in the wars. There are lots of a personal items and memorabilia that belonged to General Patton. Patton's office van is on display and is fascinating to see. It is amazing to think of the decisions that were made in this office on wheels. Lot of armored vehicles are on display, including some that were captured from the enemy.

Almost all adults will find the museum interesting. Young children may be bored with some of it, but Junior and Senior High School students who are studying the wars in school will like it. It takes around 3 hours to view the museum. Of course you can spend more or less time as you wish.

It is free admission and no food or drinks are allowed inside. It is best to eat on your way to the museum. The museum is air-conditioned and very comfortable with benches to sit on and relax if you get tired standing. Rest rooms are located at the front entrance and very clean. Wheelchairs are available at the front entrance.

I believe in the power of positive thinking. I'm a mother of 5, all grown, and I've 3 grandchildren that I spoil. Life is full of joy and I am here to live it. I am an explorer, a reader, a writer, a think...  View profile
