Paul Giamatti Wins Golden Globe for Best Actor

Paul Giamatti won the 68th Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical. His work in the movie Barney's Version beat out Hollywood heavyweights Johnny Depp, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Kevin Spacey. Depp was actually nominated twice in this category this year for his performances in Alice in Wonderland and The Tourist. It is possible that Depp supporters split their vote and made it slightly easier for Giamatti to take home the award.

Paul Giamatti gave a charming and funny acceptance speech starting off by repeating the phrase "Jesus Christ, Halle Berry" as Berry handed him his Golden Globe. He then informed us he was jacked up on free Godiva chocolates before acknowledging that the three other nominees in this category were his "superiors in every regard as men and actors."

Giamatti went on to score several solid laughs during his acceptance speech referring to his three wives in the film as a "trifecta of hotties" and by being amazed that he got paid to "smoke & drink & get laid" in the movie.

His acceptance speech overall was a good one. He thanked all the right people while peppering in laughs. Paul Giamatti seemed genuinely grateful without overdoing it and kept his remarks under 2 minutes from start to finish. Although this speech won't go down in Golden Globe history as one of the top 10 moments of all time, I think he demonstrated to world that he is truly a class act.
