Grand Blanc, Michigan - Paul H. Scott (Republican - Grand Blanc) on Sept. 15 announced his candidacy for state representative in the 51st state house district on Saturday at Grand Blanc High School, where approximately 125 local citizens attended the announcement event.

Scott, a graduate of Grand Blanc High, studied political science and law at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor and earned a masters in public policy from Harvard University. Since 2005 Scott has worked as Deputy Director of the Gallup World Poll, the Gallup Organization's multi-million dollar investment in polling 95% of the earth's population.

A life long resident of Grand Blanc Township, Scott aims to protect the core of the community by ensuring safety, security and opportunities for all. He favors policies which will encourage economic growth and is pushing a conservative platform of modernizing our criminal justice system and restructuring our corporate tax code to bring Michigan in line with other states in the Midwest.

Scott has been active in the community for years in a variety of capacities including coaching football at Burton Bendle High and baseball at Goodrich High, serving as a curriculum auditor for Grand Blanc Community Schools and an ambassador with the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce. He is also on the executive board of the Genesee County Republicans and is a member of Genesee County Right to Life.

Incumbent Republican Rep. Dave Robertson is term-limited and can not run again. The 51st District spans Southern Genesee County in mid-Michigan.

Scott is the first Republican in the district to announce. He has over $65,000 for the election cycle, with just under $5,000 being raised at the announcement event. He is supported by local leaders Ann Moss (Grand Blanc Township Trustee), Connie Lesley (Grand Blanc City Councilperson), Jack Goggins (Security Meat Packaging), Michael Newton (Grand Blanc Schools), Tom Pettit (Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation) and Pastor Larry A. Holley (Abundant Life Ministries) as well as leading Republicans Denise Graves (Genesee County Republicans Chair), Rusty Hills (Fr. Michigan Republican Party Chair) and Chuck Yob (Michigan Republican Party National Committeeman).
