Recently I got the chance to listen to Paul's second solo album entitled, "Live to Win", which was originally released on October 24, 2006. The album was produced by Paul, himself as well as includes Paul on lead vocals, background vocals, guitar, and percussion. The album was recorded under the label of New Door Records.
Considering Paul's last solo album was back in 1978, a lot of time passed giving the Star Child time to collaborate and create with the help of his friend Desmond Child. Desmond Child has been known for his own musical performances as well as writing popular songs such as Bon Jovi's "Livin' On A Prayer" and even Ricky Martin's "Livin' La Vida Loca".
KISS has always been known for its hard rock, its painted face masks that express each member's individuality, the stage props, the adult content, and of course the loudness of rock. However, when it comes to "Live to Win", this solo album is well rounded and still has the hard rock edge but also has a pop rock type of sound to it. There are also a few ballads, such as the song "Second to None". This album is a lot more mellow then the normal KISS album.
One thing is for sure, Paul Stanley has not lost any of his vocal power, that's pretty promising considering a lot of older rock bands loose their range and power over the years, but not Paul. Paul's vocals are powerful and going strong.
There's no painted face, no extravagant show to watch, but with just listening to this CD you can be mesmerized by the talent of the Star Child, as well as feel the excitement, energy, and enjoyment of what Paul does best. Listing to this album really shows that Paul has not lost touch with music, enjoys every minute of it, and is not afraid to take his own route when it comes to music.
"Live to Win" track list includes the following:
- Live to Win
- Lift
- Wake Up Screaming
- Everytime I See You Around
- Bulletproof
- All About You
- Second To None
- It's Not Me
- Loving You Without You Now
- Where Angels Dare
Every KISS fan out there and or rock fan will love this CD! I highly reccommend it!
