Paula Abdul Has Got a New Gig!

Changing Hats from Judge to Host

Freida Thomas
Paula Abdul, former American Idol judge, who ditched that job after the last season over a money or (lack) of money issue, has got a new job! I may have been wrong about Paula returning to Idol. I predicted in Paula Abdul leaving idol_or_is_she? that she would return to the January 2010 season of Idol. Paula has announced to her loyal fans on her Twitter page that she will be changing hats from judging to hosting the new show VH1 Divas Live ! Go Paula! The live concert will air live on Sept. 17th, at 9:00 pm EST.

Before I get your hopes up, this is just a one night gig. Before I researched I thought this was long-term. So, I guess that means Paula may still return to Idol, if the money issues are resolved. There's still hope.

The VH1 Divas show will air from Brooklyn Academy of Music Howard Gilman Opera House in N.Y. It will honor several artists. Among them are Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Miley Cyrus, and Leona Lewis.

A diva in her own right, Paula has over 50 million records and six number one hits, and multiple Emmy and Grammy awards. Paula's hosting the concert should help boost its ratings.

The first Divas Live concert was held in 1998 and was created to support the station VH1's 'Save the Music Foundation.' Subsequent concerts aired and benefited the Foundation until 2004. After that VH1 announced on April, 20, 2009 that it would return with another live concert on Sept. 17, 2009 with Paula Abdul as the host.

The Save the Music Foundation is a non-profit organization with a goal of restoring instrumental music programs in public schools and raising awareness of how important music participation is for students of all ages. Since the Foundation was created, it has donated more than 25 million dollars of musical instruments to a 1000 public schools in 80 cities, improving the lives of at least 500,000 children.

Paula will feel at home with some of the past American Idol winners that will be performing in the Divas Live concert. Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks will be among the performers. Paula may not be on Idol anymore, but she is still surrounding herself with some of America's best singers, all Divas no doubt.

Additional presenters and performers will be announced at a later date.

Before the Divas Live concert on Sept. 17, Paula will appear on Lifetime's dramedy "Drop Dead Diva". She has already shot two episodes, to air Sept. 13, and Oct. 11.
