Paula Abdul, If You Quit American Idol, Suggest These Replacements

Amy Cox
Poor Paula Abdul just cannot catch a break. Just yesterday, she once again made a fool out of herself by critiquing a song by Jason Castro that he had not even sang yet. He had only performed one song, but dear Paula told him his second song wasn't all that great either. Truth be told, she was right on that account, but the rest of the American Idol audience was not aware of that at the time. In the end, it was just another mishap in the career of Paula Abdul.

American Idol rejuvenated former has been Paula Abdul and placed her back into superstar status. Seeing as though American Idol is a singing competition, and critiques of the contestants that make sense would be beneficial, it might be time to switch Paula out with someone new. Maybe the American Idol producers could even find someone who is willing to pay attention to the performances. Now that will help with critiquing the artists.

In keeping with the spirit of former superstars turned into has beens, I have compiled a list of fun replacements for Paula Abdul. Maybe these unfortunate souls could also benefit from a little PR on American Idol and a little music production by Randy Jackson.

Debbie (aka Deborah) Gibson

Come on, now, don't cringe. It could be fun. Debbie Deborah could bring back the electricity to the youth on American Idol. Plus, she has never really had any major public embarrassments, unless you count wearing leggings and hats on cd covers. But really, that was a long time ago, and this is a forgiving public. Let's bring some Debbie Gibson to American Idol. If Paula Abdul was able to get a career back, then maybe Debbie Gibson could do the same. Also, maybe we could end up with a Debbie Gibson reality tv show, just like Paula Abdul got with "Hey Paula." You know you've made it when camera crews follow you to your QVC audition.

Tanya Tucker

Replacing Paula Abdul with Tanya Tucker would serve four purposes. First of all, country is a genre that is performed on American Idol, but the panel of judges does not have a strong background with that kind of music. Secondly, Tanya Tucker is a firecracker. She would be a lot of fun to watch. Third, she's already had her reality tv show, so that's been covered. Last of all, she would be a real match for Simon. I could watch the two of them fight all night long.

Whitney Houston

This suggestion is more self serving than anything. Wouldn't it be nice if Whitney Houston was on the panel? Then, possibly, the contestants would finally stop singing her songs.

Toni Braxton

I think she needs the money, so she should be available. Besides, she has a beautiful voice, and could use a career resurrection.

Britney Spears

Does this one really need an explanation? More people would tune into the show, just to see what Britney would do next. Britney has a bigger cult following of craziness than Paula Abdul does.

The time has come for an American Idol replacement. Paula has become a liability to the American Idol name. She is an embarrassment and needs to be let go.

Note to Billy Bob: Yes, Billy Bob...that would be "had not even sung yet," because the past participle is called for when "had" appears preceding it, rather than the past tense (I sing; I sang: I had sung). But, hey! Who's keeping track? (Apparently, Billy Bob is.)

Get Deborah Gibson on Idol. She writes, produces and performs her own music, so she has knowledge of the music business from the artist's side.
