Paula Abdul Quits American Idol

Paula Abdul has decided to say goodbye to American Idol. It is hard to believe. How can you have American Idol without Paula Abdul? It just won't be the same.

There is no question that without Paula Abdul, American Idol will suffer. The show was already experiencing a ratings drop over the last couple of seasons and without Paula Abdul it will undoubtedly continue to slide.

American Idol in previous years had begun to take on a more vulgar edge. It was Paula Abdul who smoothed that edge over. While Simon and Randy and the producers of the show were content to humiliate and abuse American Idol hopefuls, Paula Abdul was there to cushion the blow. She was definitely there to make people feel alright about themselves even when they had no business on the show at all.

It isn't only the gentle touch that will be missed. Paula Abdul definitely brought something a little different to the show. Let's face it. Paula Abdul could be a little off. By off I mean she could be strange. By strange I mean it was not uncommon for Paula Abdul to say something or behave in a way during the show that would make people wonder if she was really all there.

Paula Abdul's appearances definitely kept things entertaining. While it was never too difficult to imagine what Simon and Randy would say to contestants, Paula Abdul was never that predictable. In addition to what might come out of her mouth at any moment, she might very well just do something that would leave you scratching your head. She might jump up and down. She might audibly gasp in amazement while slamming her desk. She might simply just smack Simon for no reason at all.

Whatever Paula Abdul did on the show you could be assured it was interesting. She gave American Idol some flavor. While it may be interesting and enjoyable for some to watch the performers, lets be honest. Many of those performances are unbearable. Realistically, the show could roll along fine for most of the season even without the judges. However, it you are going to have judges, you have to have a Paula Abdul. American Idol will not be the same without her. She will be missed.
