Paula Abdul's Slip on American Idol

The airwaves and news feeds are buzzing about Paula Abdul and American Idol. So what is new, right? Well it seems that Paula slipped and made a comment while reviewing Jason Castro's performance on Tuesday evening's American Idol. Paula Abdul critiqued both of Jason's performances on American Idol, although he had only performed once. The slip has raised questions on the validity of American Idol and what goes on "behind the scenes" that no one knows about. How could Paula Abdul have reviewed and critiqued two performances when there was only one performance given?

Apparently, Paula was referring to the notes she had taken during Jason's dress rehearsal! GASP!!! If the premise of American Idol is correct, and the people vote for the singers, what difference would it make if Paula had indeed seen a dress rehearsal? I personally think none! But the real issue here is not about American Idol and its validity as a contest, but Paula Abdul and her seeming "loopiness" on recent American Idol shows.

What is going on with Paula?

If you search the net you will find many instances of times when Paula Abdul has appeared drunk or on some drug or medication. There is a lot of speculation about Paula's disposition on the American Idol show, how she appears to slur a lot of her words and makes comments that do not make any sense. Among other controversy, there was the alleged fling with male contestants and other allegations of being hard to deal with on the show. One article that I found stated that Paula wanted a baby...at the time, October 2007, she was with Restaurateur J.T. Torregiani, 32, for five months. I cannot say that I have kept up on Paula Abdul's love life, but could this recent bout of intoxicated or drug induced behavior be a result of Paula not being happy with where she is in her life.

Paula is 45 years old, and by all worldly standards, very successful. However, she is lacking what we all desire due to our innate, God given nature. We all want a family, someone to love and to be loved. Not be millions of adoring fans, but by someone that you can share the good and the bad times with, someone you can grow old with and share your life. Instead of gossiping about Paula Abdul and her problems, why don't we all say a prayer for her that she will find peace in her life?

But then, that would not be news.
