Paula Abdul: More Parrot Than Judge
Alas, during the first performance/elimination round the hazy look returned. In addition, her familiar "parrotesque" responses to contestants resurfaced. Perhaps some degree of charm has made Paula tolerant the last seven seasons, lessening her propensity to mimic whatever her compadres on the judging panel spit out.
In subsequent seasons Paula performed a complete copy and paste of whatever Randy Jackson offered contestants in the way of performance feedback. Whether it was a comment from Jackson on a singer's range, talent, or otherwise, Paula would undoubtedly recite a similar response, typically imbedded within run on sentences and fluff. Her charm of seasons past has dwindled and her likeness to a parrot has become even more glaring, especially with the arrival of Kara DioGuardi to the judging panel.
DioGuardi's quick and precise critique and comment of the contestants sadly accentuates Paula's copycat antics. Paula has become even more of a parody each time she follows DioGuardi's comments, failing to come up with an original thought or idea. You can almost envision a tiny Paula parrot perched on the elegant shoulders of DioGuardi squawking, "Work on your pitch, work on your pitch" or "You have star quality, you have star quality." In response, all I can think of to say is "pretty bird Paula, pretty bird."
