I was hoping that this would be the day
To alleviate my Valentine's pain,
No Femina around for me today.
Everything is still in working order,
But, doesn't seem to be nearly enough
Anytime I want to cross the border,
Yes, Feb 14th is, for me, very rough!
I see all the hearts and all the flowers,
Pretty girls of all shapes, sizes and hues
Daydreams of damsels in gilded towers,
My mind drifts back to the Feb 14th blues.
So, though this Valentine's I have no card,
I can just try and emulate the Bard.
I've found that I have two people called Valentine in my family, so every day was Valentine's Day for them! Now, I LOVE women, but love's always been a rocky road for me (never been a cheater either). I hope people who do have someone have a great Valentine's Day. Forget about money and fame, love transcends everything. Enjoy the one you're with... And don't take 'em for granted!
This sonnet was written in lines all of 10 syllables. Often called the Shakespearian style, that's not strictly true, as Shaky would often go for the odd line of 11 syllables. What a rebel, eh?

Post a CommentThis is lovely Paul, I love the Shakespearian style and the word usage. Such a heartfelt message at the end too, this is wonderful!
Lovely and touching with a dash of humor, I like! :-) Great message, too. We should indeed cherish real love. Some never find it. Happy belated Valentine's day! Femina! Wow! Now, there's a word I have never seen. Amazing. Thank you.
I want so much for you to have that special someone in your life for you to share such moments with.... You are absolutely right about not taking your mate for granted. Cherish your sweet Valentine! oxoxoxox
I am a big fan of sonnet's. Great job Paul.
You Know Paul one of your comments advised me never to be shy. I thought and wondered about this for awhile. Now I understand. Courage, fear, temptation, bravado, thanks.
Love the use of syllables. Sorry you were alone for Valentine's Day. Maybe next year you will have a beautiful Valentine.
*Hugs you from across the pond* I like this piece muchly and can relate to it in the sense that I do not have a male *sigh*
Awww...I never thought I would find my valentine either (even though my birthday is on Valentine's Day), but thirty-two years ago my true valentine appeared and it has been Valentine's Day every day since then. It'll happen for you, too!
Aww! Nicely written, Paul. :)
We all love you, Paul. :)
