Paw Park of Historic Sanford is located at 427 S. French Avenue, in Sanford, Florida. It is a "off leash" dog park, meaning that your dogs are free to run and play with out a leash. The park has been rated as the second best dog park in the country by Dog Fancy Magazine. This dog park has many features including; a large 6 foot fence, a double gated entrance, benches, tables, a small dog area, poop bag dispensers, parking, handicap access, a community bulletin board, self-serve dog water fountains, paved walkways for people, a time out booth, misting towers and dog showers, and a hurricane-toppled oak tree which provides a lot of fun for dogs and people who enjoy to climb.

This park is great because it features an area for smaller dogs. This is good because some smaller dogs get intimidated by larger breeds. Having their own area allows for the smaller breeds to get enjoyment out of the park without being scared or trampled by larger breeds. The only downside to this is often there are not a lot of smaller dogs that use this area, so often if your dog wants to socialize they will have to be brave and play with the big dogs.

This park is beautiful and provides plenty of shade for both you and your dog. There are water fountains provided for both you and your four legged friend's enjoyment. The dog showers can also be fun for the two of you because the mist the showers provide is very refreshing on hot days. There is a very large tree in the center of the park that fell in a hurricane a few years ago. This tree is great for dogs to climb on and also dig around. My dog loves to play around the roots where the dirt is soft so that he can dig.

Many people forget to bring poop bags for their dogs; this problem is solved because the park provides them to promote keeping the park clean. This is a very clean park and almost all visitors follow the rules and dog park etiquette. There are rules in place to protect the dogs, some of the rules include; no choke collars, owners are responsible for refilling holes your dog digs, owners are responsible for cleaning up poop, no aggressive dogs.

So if you and your pooch are ever in Sanford make sure to check out the Paw Park of Historic Sanford, you won't be disappointed.
