If you want crabs, oysters, and clams this is the place to vacation. I have personally never gone crabbing, but it is easily accomplished with a crab pot, a drop net, or a dip net. Oysters and clams can be harvested easily and there are many festivals in Pawley's Island to attend where these fantastic foods are served. Be sure to know the local laws on crabbing or harvesting before you attempt it yourself.
No visit to Pawley's Island would be complete with out a trip to the Hammock Shop and pick up a hand woven hammock to take back home. The shop is located at 10880 Ocean Highway and also offers swings and other hammock accessories.
Besides the Hammock Shop there are many stores to browse in and places to snack in the shopping village. There are walkways leading from one set of shops to another with benches outside to sit and relax. A day can be spent here browsing and there is definitely something for everyone.
If you have youngster who would like to surf, Surf The Earth offers surf camp for a fee and provides almost everything needed to learn the correct and safe way to surf. They offer five day and three day mini classes by certified instructors and all your kids need to bring is a bathing suit, towel, sunscreen, and a snack. If you just want to rent a surfboard they offer daily up to weekly rentals and also offer some great kayak deals as well as other packages.
Of all the places to go near Pawley's Island, Brookgreen Gardens is not one to be missed. You will probably not see everything in one day and will want to come back again.
