Pay Less Fees at the Bank

Do you always seem to be paying fees at the bank? There are overdrawn fees, late payment fees, and even fees to get a money order or cashier's check. These are all services which the bank provide to you and how the bank makes money. Some banks make quite a bit of money off of these never ending fees that they always seem to charge. You imagine how much a bank can make a day with an overdraft fee of $40 times say 200 customers that overdraft daily (most banks probably have more customers than that who overdrawn daily). This is a potential profit of $8000 a day for a bank and that's just for the overdraft fees, not starting to count the other miscellaneous fees that banks charge on a daily basis.

GET YOUR FEES WAIVED: If you are a good customer, you can sometimes get fees waived. Always ask. Never be afraid to ask, even if you think that the answer will be 'no'. You may be in for a surprise. Banks occasionally will waive the fees for late payments, if you are not usually a late payer. Sometimes they will waive the fee for cashier checks and money orders, if you are a loyal customer. They may even waive the overdraft fees, if you do not overdraw your account all of the time. Simply ask, and make sure that you are talking to the right person who can actually make the decision. Most of the time, the only people who can make the decision to waive a fee will be a manager.

DO NOT BE A BAD CUSTOMER: If you are a bad customer the bank will turn you down to waive your fees 9 times out of 10. Be sure to always be prompt in making your loan payments. Try to never overdraw your checking account. If you need to get a cashier's check or money order, you may want to simply go to the post office, most of the time they charge less for these checks than the banks do. Always be kind and courteous to the bank staff as well, this will help you get fees waived easier.

Always be aware of your options and get a second opinion. If you think the person you are talking to is not qualified to answer your questions about waived fees, ask for a manager or supervisor.
