John Smith
A number of business owners have started using third party payroll service providers to do their company's payroll. But often, some owners simply do not know what exactly a payroll processing company does for their business. Payroll specialists take care of a number of things, including paying employees, tax work, and creating reports. Business owners simply to let the processor know the hours their employees work and the pay rate and they typically can handle the rest.

First and foremost, payroll processing companies calculate the pay that employees receive based on the hours provided by the business owner. In addition, they will calculate and state or federal deductions that the employee is responsible for paying. After the deductions are complete, the processor will issue the employee payment, usually in the form of a direct deposit or via check.

In addition, payroll processing companies file and deposit all of the federal, state, and local taxes that your business is responsible for paying. There are a number of different taxes and forms that need to submitted, so it is essential that they are done correctly and by the mandated deadline. For the most part, the payroll company assumes the liability for any errors made, but you should ask your service provider what their policy is instead of just making assumptions.

Furthermore, payroll processing companies typically create reports directly for the business owner. These contain detailed summaries of where your money is going, what your employees and making, and other valuable information for the business owner. At the end of the year, they will usually provide W-2s and 1099s for your employee. These forms are essential for your employees, as they need them to file their own personal taxes. The payroll company stores all of the payment data for the year so they know the exact amounts each employee was paid during the filing year.
