PBS Kids Games

Mrs. Renee
I have always enjoyed the programs and PBS kids games than there provided by PBS kids. My kids have always enjoyed games that have some of their favorite fun characters such as Clifford, Jay the Jet Plane, Between the Lions and all of the sesame street characters. There are many games that my children have enjoyed playing online at www.pbskids.org.

One of their favorites is "Fly with Jay Jay". Since my son always enjoyed watching Jay Jay the Jet plane we thought that the game would be just as much fun. This game is very easy to play you can use the arrow keys on the keyboard or you can just have your child use the mouse to click on the arrows in order to fly Jay Jay from one place to the other. When you fly over the red flag you can land and explore that area. What I really liked is that it helped my son learn how to control the mouse and navigate on the computer. Since our children our growing up in the age of technology, they will need to know how to use a computer. Most schools even have computers in the kindergarten classes so this is a fun way to give your child a head start.

Another favorite PBS kids game is "Journey to Ernie". After watching the show on PBS and seeing how much fun my kids have trying to find Ernie I thought that the online game would be just as much fun. The way you play the game is very simple, you just have to figure out where Ernie is hiding. I thought that this game was great since it helped to develop their color recognition and matching skills. It was a challenge for my children at first, but a fun one.

Then there is Elmo Rhymes, where you basically have to find objects in the closet that have similar sounds. First Elmo will pick an object and than your child has to find that object that sounds the same. This is a fun PBs kids game that helps your child to learn about rhyming words. My children really had fun with this one and would play it for hours.

Between the "Lions Alphabet Soup" is great for helping my children to learn how to spell. Playing is really easy. You have to fill in the blank, of the sentence they provide. You do this by putting the letters that are floating in the soup together to spell that word. Your child can click each letter starting with the first letter. Once they have spelled the word correctly they can move on to the next word. My children had a lot of fun with this trying to figure out the words, and the sentences were funny jokes or riddles so they enjoyed helping to figure them out. This is definitely one of the easiest ways I have found to teach my children to enjoy spelling, before they have even started pre-school. Even in kindergarten my son found this game to be a lot of fun and he was very well advanced when it came to spelling. They also have a story section where the lions will sit and read a story to you and your child while you listen.

These are just a few of the favorite games that my children really enjoyed playing online at PBS Kids. I also liked that they had a recommended books list for begging in readers, and plenty of additional activities that you can do with your children offline. They have pintables where you can print out fun coloring actives or games for your children. They have alphabet cutouts which I used very often for my children. They also have game ideas that you can play with your children. A lot of the games offer vocabulary building help, and introduction to synonyms to name just some of the things that your children can learn, just as my did. It also helped to give each of my children a head start. If your child is not in pre-school yet than I would highly recommend that you play some of these games with your children. You will be surprised at how quickly they can learn just from playing a few fun games.
