PC Repair Shop Success

If you want to open a PC Repair Shop, you need two principle things, knowledge and customers. You cannot run any type of service-oriented business if you do not know what you are doing. The first thing you need is an education. Whether you got yours from vocational school, college or on-the-job training, if you do not know your product, it will be obvious to your customers. Your customers may not know how to repair a computer, but they will know if you can immediately.

One way to make sure you have repeat business and gain new customers by word-of-mouth advertising is to do a good, thorough job at a reasonable price. The amount of computer repair shops that are opening up and services that send their technicians to your home or business in cute little cars makes establishing a new business more difficult. Your satisfied customers will be the best advertisement you can invest in. A happy customer will tell their friends and colleagues about your shop and your service.

Sure, you can and should advertise in the local yellow book and the newspaper. If your community has a monthly or quarterly magazine, advertise there. People like keeping their money in their own community. If you have a regular ad running, you could have an article with tips for maintaining their computer. This way the locals will get used to seeing your ad and they will read your tips article and feel like they are learning something free and that you truly care about them. People like to get something for nothing. If you demonstrate that you want to help them help themselves, they will remember to come to you for a repair that they cannot handle on their own.

Make sure that you post your prices, whether it is an hourly rate, a fixed price for certain repairs, or standard fee for diagnostics on their component. This way if you do get the job, the fee can apply to the cost of the repairs. That way if they decide not to have it repaired after all, you have not wasted your time. This way they will not come to you to find out what is wrong and go home and fix it themselves or have a friend do it after you have done the diagnostics.

The main thing to do to be a successful repair shop is to be honest with your customers. Do not try to price gouge them and overcharge for minor repairs. If a computer is not fixable, tell them. Do not waste their money and your time trying to repair something that it is better to replace. Computer parts are cheaper these days than trying to repair an old part. It is less time consuming and the customer will end up with an upgraded computer for less than the price of a new one. He will feel like he got a deal and a better computer that did not cost an arm and a leg. The customer will be happy and you will have his friends as your customers in the near future.
