Well, one of the most common and destructive problems that a tower case can do is to short circuit your motherboard. If your motherboard isn't seated properly on your tower case and some of its parts touch the metal wall of your case, it can short circuit the board rendering it slightly damaged or even unusable. Make sure that you safely place your motherboard on the tower and if possible, you can place a thin sheet of plastic to act as insulator between the board and the tower.
When your computer begins to have problems booting up, there is a slight chance that the cause could be your PC tower case's switches. Remember those little wires that connect to your motherboard for the power switch, reset switch, LEDs, etc.? If improperly connected, it can cause problems on your motherboard or may not work at all.
If you've had your case for quite a while and haven't actually opened your case for at least a year, it's probable that a significant amount of dust has settled inside and can clog your CPU, video card, or case fans. If this happens, your computer may not boot up and will most likely cause the temperature to rise.
The worst that could happen is when the temperature gets high enough; it can permanently damage your computer components. Check the holes to see if there is no blockage due to dust or other foreign objects. Make sure to clean your case to achieve maximum air flow and optimal temperatures.
Most, if not all, PC tower cases come with its own power supply. However, a lot of them are generic power supplies aside from branded and expensive PC tower cases where they also provide efficient power supplies. Generic power supplies can work initially but in the long run, if you have a power computer and you stick with the generic power supply that came with the case, it may start failing and may not be able continue supplying enough power to your computer. The power supply isn't part of the case itself and can always be replaced.
PC tower case problems are quite rare but as far as troubleshooting, these can always be considered if all other options have been done and checked. Based from what I have observed, the most important aspect in buying a PC tower case is how you choose. I don't just buy a case because it is compatible with my hardware or because it looks cool. I also consider the air flow, the number of drive bays, features such as front panels, etc. And don't forget, maintenance is important. Keep your case clean and make sure the wires are not entangled. So most of the time, you really don't need to buy a new one.
