Peace is Found from Within

Tina Herzog
I glanced out of the window tonight. Under the soft glow of the hidden street light, I found myself unwinding. My eyes witnessed thousands upon thousands of white flying stars. They whipped about untamed and uncaring. Their beauty struck me. Their designs were complicated webs. No two are alike. Not one flake is less important than the other's are. All dancing together, forming comforting shows. I found peace.

I observed the overpowering silence in my house. Floating to my child's crib, to catch a glimpse, my heart felt joyful. The joy was steadily increasing as I watched her sleep. Her fragile state, showing through, like a new hatch-ling. Her striking innocence is like that of a bright red apple. Her slow breathing steadied mine. She knows no boundaries. She owns the future. She does not even realize how loved she is. Suddenly, a tear falls to her side. I felt peace.

Some, in this world, are given everything they could ever need. They have any possessions they could ever want. They seem to have a new wardrobe every week. Their money is thrown around like a bouncy ball. If you asked them to describe the sunrise or even the colors of a sunset, they'd be silenced. Where do they find peace?

Some, in this world, just saw the sunrise this morning, and as we speak; watching the tye-dyed sunset. They work their fingers to the bone. They are strong willed and full of dreams. They only purchase things they truly need and talk about future buys. They were the same torn and bottomless flannel religiously; daily. They are content with themselves and their places in life. They find peace in the spectacular strokes of a pen or the fabulous end result of an art project. Their talents are mightier then we realize. The respect they carry for all they encounter is priceless.

Who do you want to be like? Who do you envy? Where are your priorities placed? The grass may look greener on the other side, but its artificial turf.

Peace can only be found from within. Slow down and enjoy all the great escapes. Life is too short to run to the finish line. Don't worry--just be.
