Peace in Our Time

Genie Walker
Can you image such a thing?
Peace in our time.
It is a pretty phrase.
But what does it mean?

Peace in our time.
Will violence in the streets be eliminated?
Does that mean our neighborhoods will be quiet?
Will we respect each other's sacred space?

What does it mean?
Will neighbors not disagree
Over who owns the last inch of land between?
Or does it only apply to nations fighting nations?

How can we separate the individual from the whole?
It's a pretty phrase.
Peace in our time.
But what does it mean?

I cannot image a world that does not know war.
Sometimes when I'm alone I visualize a future without battles.
Where history students examining the past
Are extremely puzzled by the alien concept of war.

Trying to grasp the idea of nations of people fighting other nations of people
Over such things as honor, pride, land, religion or material gain.
They just don't get it.
They know peace in their time.

Wouldn't it be nice if we were them?
Peace in our time.
Peace in time.
Peace time.

Peace.

    Wouldn't it be so grand?

When I maintain a state of inner peace and joy, then I am part of the universal peace that I seek for I am inextricably interconnected with the whole. I cannot expect peace 'outside' when there is unrest within.

Thank you for your post Genie :-)

Good job. I have written some ideas for my own poem of Peace, and will hopefully publish within the next couple of months. Perhaps the more we see it, the more we will live it.
