Peaceful, Relaxing Cherry Grove Beach, South Carolina

George
In response to Relaxing at Cherry Grove Beach, South Carolina: Beautiful Cherry Grove is located a few more than 6 miles from North Carolina, but you're not that far off. I frequently vacationed at Cherry Grove each summer for a few years, until I permanently moved to Wilmington, NC, an hour's drive from Cherry Grove.

Myrtle Beach in general is hopping and bustling with fun things to do for every type of person! Cherry Grove happens to be in the North part of Myrtle Beach, a lot quieter and a tad bit less congested than central Myrtle Beach. Cherry Grove is a great escape from the tourists and spring break crowds, though many of them make their way into Cherry Grove.

My family and I vacationed at a friend's condo a block over from the beach each summer for a week. If you go to Myrtle Beach, you will definitely need an entire 5 to 7 days to take in all the excitement!

In Cherry Grove, there's the pier, which has an upper deck for enjoying views and relaxing. The Cherry Grove Pier was built early in the 1950's and has been owned by the Prince family since 1965. It has survived many hurricanes, but was remodeled and lengthened in 1999 after a visit from hurricane Floyd. That storm took off the upper deck and relocated it 1000 yards down the beach. If you like fishing, take your rod and reel and do some fishing for flounder or Kings.

There's no end to shopping around Cherry Grove. From surf shops to souvenir shops to malls with all your favorite stores, you can find everything you want here. Fireworks stores are worth visiting. If you're willing to break some state laws, buy some rockets and such to take home with you to shoot for festivities and holidays. We always drove down for July 4th to buy the huge rockets for our party back in Wilmington. Bass Pro Shops at Colonial Mall is another big store to browse. It's definitely Heaven for fishermen and hunters!

I laugh at the though of trying to mention restaurants. There are way too many good places to point out. Basically, every restaurant along the Grand Strand serves delicious entrees! You have fast food to seafood buffets to Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood, Nascar Café, pizza to the deli at Boulineau's grocery store. Whatever you crave, there's a restaurant for you!

Cherry Grove has pretty, clean beaches for you to relax on during the warm, sunny days. Again, the beaches here don't get as crowded as central Myrtle Beach. Kids will enjoy body boarding and building sand castles on the shore. On occasion, star fish wash up. I don't recommend swimming past 4pm, as that's typical feeding times for sharks, and there have been numerous shark bites along the Grand Strand during warm months.

Nightlife is unbelievable! From hip-hop to top 40, you can dance and drink the night away at your choice of several clubs. If dancing isn't your specialty, there are several bars from which you can choose to visit. I personally enjoy going to Froggy Bottomz and Fat Tuesdays at Broadway at the Beach. Summer months are busy, but during the fall, especially October, a lot of bars and clubs are dead. You can catch live musical performances at the Alabama Theater, House of Blues, and Palace Theater. Chances are, some popular celebrity will be in town on the same day you are, so stop in and check out the calendars to buy your tickets.

There's go carts, amusement parks, rodeo dinner theater, water parks, and Alligator Adventure park that kids will enjoy. On the main drag of Myrtle Beach, you can partake in Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum and the IMAX theater. Back at Broadway on the Beach Shopping Center, the Aquarium is a lovely place to visit. It features an underwater tunnel where you step on a flat escalator that takes you underneath sharks, turtles, and other amazing marine life.

Cherry Grove would be the perfect place to relax on your next vacation!
