The Peanut Butter recall also includes products sold under the brand name Parnell's Pride, and King Nut, which is distributed by the King Nut Company. It was in fact a jar of King Nut name brand peanut butter that was first identified as being positive for Salmonella. As of January 13, 2009, the same strain of Salmonella had been identified in 42 states, affecting nearly four hundred people and causing them to become sick with Salmonella poisoning.
Peanut Corporation of America has voluntarily issued the recall and is working directly with those who had purchased the products. They are also working openly with both the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) and the FDA (the Food and Drug Administration).
Salmonella poisoning is potentially life threatening and is extremely harmful to young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. The beginning signs and symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include feeling nauseous or vomiting. The patient might also experience abdominal cramping and pains, accompanied by diarrhea. In addition to the stomach ailments, fever, aches, general malaise, extreme tiredness, and chills might also be present. Symptoms can come on suddenly and can last up to two weeks. You might not develop symptoms for several hours after ingestion, so make sure to take this into consideration if you suspect that you might have been exposed to Salmonella. If you have developed any of these symptoms, contact your health care provider for more information.
