Peapod Grocery Delivery Service in Washington, DC: My Personal Experience
An Explanation of Why Grocery Delivery Services Are Not Just for the Rich
Nowadays many people have to take on multiple jobs; or work extra hours to make ends meet. They also have family obligations and commitments. All of this can mean a lot of driving around and wasting gas. Additional employment and obligations can take away from time spent on things that are of great importance to many people. Grocery shopping during rush hour, and then waiting in line; can seem like an unpleasant task in the midst of these activities and obligations. Grocery delivery services not only save time; but, they save you gas money and stress as well.
I got my groceries delivered--while still living in DC--by Peapod. They were my only grocery delivery option at the time, because none of the other companies had the service available. The delivery fee was small considering the convenience. It was something like $8. The delivery people were friendly; and insisted on bringing my groceries to the front door of my apartment; instead of leaving them on the front stoop.
This really stood out to me considering they'd be delivering like 20-35 bags of groceries at a time. All of the grocery delivery drivers seemed trained with a certain protocol of courtesy towards customers; that was noticeable in each and every delivery person.
The only negative thing was that some of the portion sizes of the delivered groceries seemed kind of small. Like you didn't have access to the large family discount packages of steaks etc.
What you ordered online would usually be the small to medium version of mayonnaise, for example.
I'm not sure if this is because of all the heavy lifting the drivers would have to do; or if adding all the products was just too tedious on such a large website.
In any event, Peapod was like it's own little grocery store with it's own specials that may or may not have been attached to the in-store specials, and bulk sales. So if you're looking for bulk; maybe you should head out to the store. But, this was a few years back; so things might have changed.
There are many places nowadays that offer grocery delivery.
Organic grocery delivery is one of the main things available in most metropolitan areas. Foods are purchased from local growers and delivered to your door. Many grocery stores now have an organic section; but you'll save money with getting your organic fruits and veggies delivered. You'll also support a local entrepreneur. Just put "organic food delivery your city, your state," into Google or Yahoo to find a company.
Grocery stores that deliver to many areas all over the country now include Safeway, Harris Teeter, Giant (Peapod), Asian Food Grocer, Mex Grocer, Albertson's, Meyer's, Ralph's and Publix. If none of these are in your area just put "grocery delivery service your city, your state," into Google or Yahoo to find a company.
