A landmark of sorts, the building that now hosts Wellfleet's Pearl Restaurant and Bar goes back 50 years. It was once known as The Oyster House, The Spit and Chatter Club, and The Captain Higgins. It is a modest building overlooking the Duck Creek and Wellfleet Harbor in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. It is equipped with a large deck with gorgeous views and has had an artsy renovation that adds to its classic atmosphere.

The Service

The staff was a mixture of eclectic young women and non-descript young men. There was a lack in true friendliness in the case of our waitress and hostess. However, the service was attentive enough. Overall it was nothing extraordinary and simply adequate. A gentleman did thank us on the way out and left us with a much more positive opinion of the staff overall.

The Atmosphere

There was a nice mixture of the modern creative with a classic seafarer décor. There were some very original wall sconces in the shape of a school of fish that were to be admired. There were also a number of original art pieces that mixed well with their surroundings. The layout of the restaurant was very open and airy and there were plenty of windows to admire the beautiful view. There were decks that were both open and screened in to enjoy the outside air, but it was a little on the chilly side on this occasion.

The Food

Dining at The Pearl for an early lunch, our party stuck with salads and sandwiches. The small salads were more than enough and there was no amount of skimping on its ingredients. The sandwiches were fried oyster "po boys" and came with a side of fries. The fries were amazingly delicious, cut thin, and light on the oil. The oysters were also fried to perfection and the portion of oysters was generous. Our party felt very satisfied with the amount of and the quality of the food ordered.

The Prices

The Pearl has a number of items on their lunch menu that range from the very expensive at a little over $20 to small soups and salads at around $6. For the quality of the atmosphere and food it is very reasonable.

Conclusion

The Pearl Restaurant and Bar is a good spot for locals and visitors to The Cape. While the service is average, the food and atmosphere certainly make up for it.

Unfortunately I agree with Leah May%2C I%27ve been to the Pearl 3 times now. I wanna like the place%2C It is beautiful%2C but the food is just ok and way overpriced. If I do go back it will be for a drink at the bar and then head someplace else for dinner. Note to Pearl%2C tweak that menu and get a new chef. You put a lot of money into this place don%27t take it out on your customers by overcharging them for lackluster food.

Doubt I'll make it out that way soon, but if I do I'll keep this in mind.
