Pedi-Paws: Pet Nail Trimmer

Does it Really Work?

Phantom Rose
Pedi-Paws is a new innovation by pet marketers that is supposed to be a pet-friendly way to trim your pet's claws. It is a battery operated nail filer that safely files down your pets claws painlessly and is meant for use with cats and dogs. It has become a quite popular As Seen on TV item. However, some people are dubious as to whether As Seen on TV products really deliver what they say. Some of them do, and some of them do not. Does Pedi-Paws really work? Here's my review.

I happened to stumble upon Pedi-Paws at my local Wal-Mart store and having just acquired a new kitten that is beginning to reach that age of wanting to claw at my furniture, decided to give it a try. I paid the almost twenty dollar price and took it home with high hopes. I read all of the instructions and warnings and then proceeded to follow them by first showing my kitten the Pedi-Paws instrument, letting her sniff it and become accustomed to it. Then I turned the instrument on and let her examine it with the slight humming sound that it makes. She seemed okay with it-at first.

Now, on the Pedi-Paws warnings, it does warn the user that each pet is different. Some pets will not mind the Pedi-Paws machine while others may not tolerate it. When I gently tried to apply the Pedi-Paws to my little kitten, Cookie, she was not too happy about it. First, she responded by pulling her paw away. And after several days of several tries with coaxing and rewarding of treats and every method suggested by the Pedi-Paws instruction manual, she still would not have anything to do with the Pedi-Paws. Consequently, my pet was one of those who would not tolerate the machine. I don't know if it was uncomfortable for her, if the sensation on her claw was intolerable, or if it was the noise generated by the wand, but I had no success with her. In the end, I found that she was much more cooperative of having her nails clipped with kitten nail clippers that I purchased at Petco.

However, I have heard that some people have experienced success with the Pedi-Paws. Therefore, I must conclude that every pet is different and that the only way to decide if Pedi-Paws is right for you and your pet is to just give it a try. It seems like an amicable idea for both pet and owner. Pedi-Paws does break your pet's nail as do regular nail clippers nor does it offer the pain of de-clawing. Yet, Pedi-Paws was not for my kitten, so my best advice would be to warn people who are considering purchasing the Pedi-Paws that every pet is different and some with tolerate it while some will not.

This product is crap.....I tried to use it on both my dogs and I will still continue to use my Drumel. The Pedi Claw does not have the speed it needs to trim the nail efficiently.
