Pedophiles; America's Most Frustrating Problem

One of the greatest problems facing American society today is that of dealing with Pedophiles. It seems like we are hearing about cases on a daily basis. Everything from sexual relations to rape and murder.

A pedophile can be anybody from a Catholic priest to your next door neighbor or even a member of the immediate family.

Some of the characteristics of a pedophile are the following. They can be existing in a failed marriage. They mask their true intentions by staying in the relationship. Sometimes the spouse knows but never says anything. A pedophile displays a special interest or fascination for children. Although sometimes this can't be proved, it should be looked at closely by older adults. A pedophile often makes exaggerated references to children. They may call a child innocent, blissful, or "God sent." A pedophile may have hobbies or interests similar to what a child has.(Toy collections, photos, model cars etc.) They tend to be at least a middle aged individual with little or few friends. They have a tendency to stay to themselves. Most pedophiles have to legitimately find a way to be around children. Such as a teacher, coach, bus driver, tutor, or caretaker. Lastly, they study children. They try to find ways to get close to a child to take advantage of them. They might ask for help in locating a pet or doing a small chore that appears to be neighborly. They have a tendency to want to place their hands on a child in a lovingly way. Children crave attention and pedophiles are ready to give it.

There are things that parents can do to help their children. Many teach children to not talk to strangers. They teach them to use the word 'NO". More and more children are being taught to avoid strangers at all costs. They are encouraged to stay in groups and that there is strength and safety in numbers. They are taught that nobody should touch them in any way. Parents should also be aware of their surroundings. Check to see if any sex offenders live nearby. Get to know who they are and what they look like. If you have a computer that your child uses, put it in a room where you can observe them using it. Discourage Chat rooms with unknowns.

The "Amber Alert" has saved a lot of children in recent years. Once in affect, Police and State Agencies along with common citizens are on the lookout for missing children. Alerts in some states carry over to the next. It is not unusual for State Agencies to work together in locating a missing child.

Nevertheless, each day someone takes advantage of an innocent unsuspecting child. Many pedophiles claim that they can't control themselves. However, many never seek help until they are discovered. They get by with their crimes because children are afraid to talk. A lot of times children aren't taken seriously enough in their accusations. It is easy for a pedophile to lie because they have planned for this on a daily basis. When they are accused, they are prepared to refute what is being said against them. Many claim that their rights are being violated. Every once in a while a child does lie or exaggerates and that just gives a pedophile ammunition to fight back.

In recent years many grown men have come forward to condemn Catholic Priests for sexual violations. It is hard to believe that men of God used the church to hide and go after young boys. Yet that is one of the traits of a pedophile. They use it as a way to get close and take advantage of a child. Priests aren't the only ones though. Many single mothers are approached by people who offer to pick up or take their child to school, games, or practices., and appointments.

The problem of dealing with a pedophile in America is an ongoing problem. But more today than ever, pedophiles are being confronted and justice is being served. Organizations such as the Counter Pedophilia Investigative Unit is making headway in teaching prevention and helping to hunt down pedophiles.
Tracking devices and bands are being placed on pedophiles so that there where abouts are know 24/7. Sex offenders are being required to register at local police stations. Pictures. DNA, and fingerprints are being collected for future use. States are making laws that pedophiles can't go within certain distances of schools are gatherings places for children. One town in Illinois was trying to pass an ordinance that prohibited pedophiles from even living in their town.

Pedophiles are considered as mentally sick individuals. Their sexual perversion is on a scale second to none. It is an ongoing problem that all Americans must be ready to deal with. More so than ever, parents must work hard to educate their children.
