Pedophilia is Not Funny: It is a Crime Against Our Children

F.D.Burgess
Pedophilia is described as a perverse, sexual attraction to children. Comedians and TV sitcoms will joke about this taboo and others as long as it brings the audience to laughter.

Imagine how children who were victims of pedophilia feel when this crime does not evoke anger and outrage but laughter from our society.

Shows such as Family Guy utilize pedophilia jokes routinely with an elderly pedophile in the neighborhood. This character loves the son Chris utilizing several methods to get him in his home. He sung a love song to Chris while perched in a tree (dressed as a female) using binoculars peering into his room. He called Chris his man.

One time this character told a kid to "get your ass in the house" when the kid would not acknowledge his intentions. He used a ladder to look in Chris's room while Chris was undressing and dancing. Although the pedophilia jokes evoked laughter, they say a lot about our society. Is pedophilia acceptable now?

Mad TV frequently uses pedophilia and Michael Jackson 'jokes' in their skits. For instance, one sketch shows about five ministers entering a boy's camp lodge singing, "it's getting so hot in here; I'm going to take my clothes off". They proceeded to remove their clothes imitating their intention to have sex with the boys. This was not funny at all.

Other sketches include multiple Michael Jackson based pedophilia jokes. It is strange that society has not exhibited its discontent with these types of performances. We scream and protest about saving the whales but not about saving our children.

Jay Leno apparently does not have any qualms making Michael Jackson and pedophilia jokes. Pedophilia apparently is not a crime in his book.

One such indiscretion is a sketch of a Michael Jackson look-a-like walking into the court during his child molestation trial. A member of his entourage noticed something clinging to his heels and promptly removed a pair of boy underwear.

So many television shows make jokes of the violation of our children by pedophiles. A joke is cheap but a lifetime of psychological therapy for the child is not.

A new line of clothes by Beyonce is using small children to model very adult clothing. Advertisers display children modeling stilettos and spiked heel boots. It makes one wonder who are their target group of consumers.

According to Malkin (2008), the young children "are seductively posed and dressed up, Jon Benet-style with bright lipsticks, blush, and face powder. They also are "draped with bling, bling, sport leather jackets and studded accessories."

"An even younger model is a toddler-aged Beyonce Mini-Me with huge hair, skinny jeans, spike-heeled leather boots and attitude to match".

Malkin mentions how a clothing firm caused outrage a few years ago with its line of thongs for elementary school girls and pedophilia chic catalogues. Pedophiles use this child exploitation to satisfy some of their needs. Some TV ads also expose a running baby's naked behind. This may be trivial to some but outrageous to most.

We need to pay more attention to children in the advertising and modeling business. I cared for a hospitalized pedophilic inmate on the prison ward. When an officer discovered ads of children from a department store catalogue taped to the bathroom wall. He promptly transferred the inmate back to the prison.

Our society does not render a uniform prison sentence between states. A 32-year/old man sexually molested his daughter from ages 2-4 years old. He also participated in internet child pornography. His initial sentence was for 15 years but a judge decreased it to 9 years because, according to the judge, there was no violence involved. I hope that no comedian will use this as a joke!

Is this how numb and insensitive society has become on the subject of pedophilia? Comedians can joke about so many other subjects. Let us make pedophilia jokes a taboo again!

Quite simply, there are two parts to life, fiction and non-fiction. People laught at the fictional humour regarding pedophilia, but would want serious justice on real-life perverts. There is a very distinct difference, and anybody who doesn't know where that difference lies should be in jail before they can do anything like this. Don't take away the people's right to laugh at stuff like this. Bit of attempted censorship going on?

I feel your pain. The subject of child abuse in general is close to me. I noticed recently that a teenage girl was sentenced to 3 years in prison for stealing $187 from a girl scout yet two pedophiles that were convicted of molesting a minor served less than a year in prison. One was put on probation and the other served 30 days in jail. I don't understand how it has been made okay in our society to harm children, how it's so much less of a crime than petty theft. This whole topic is very disturbing.
