Holly Madison has done what every good entrepreneur rule-book says you are supposed to do; she has found people who are very good at what they do and she has surrounded them. This fact has let them all ascended to even greater heights than they may have been able to get to on their talent alone. "Peepshow" is not a Holly Madison spectacular though; she takes on the very passive role of Bo Peep.
The majority of the show is told in story book form with plenty of classic disco breaks and topless gallivanting. "Peepshow" is not a show for the young or immature as there is some graphic sexuality. However it all was done with a surprisingly accessible amount of good tasteful. Who among us with an Internet connection or basic cable hasn't seen just about all the Holly Madison private parts one can handle? Holly wasn't even the real draw of the show, but that just gets back to her entrepreneurial spirit showing itself in this show.
The story begins with Madison on a projection screen, feeling tired and beaten down by her 9 to 5. She falls asleep in bed reading a story book and is dropped from the ceiling in a web like cocoon to the alternate reality of the land of "Peepshow." This strange limbo is actually quite an enticing place. There are many scantily clad beautiful girls prancing about and gyrating and showing off their wares. "Peepshow" is actually something like what I'd always wished cheer leading was when I'd see the girls dancing around at football games.
Holly Madison has top billing in "Peepshow" and she is still the big draw and that's too bad. Not because Madison is bad, per se; she is underused, but that's the way her character is written. The too bad part about her being the big draw to this show is that she is not the reason to come see the show. The very vocal emcee of the evening was good; the two other principal female singers are even better.
Then there's Josh Strickland. This guy is pretty amazing but his following the night we were at "Peepshow" rivaled Madison's (or it may have just been a cluster of the same drunk folks all cheering loudly.) This guy belts and struts and does his best not to upstage his beautiful, mostly-nude female co-stars.
"Peepshow" is such a fun show which could live on even beyond Madison's shadow. The "Peepshow" ensemble are a dynamic and fun cast. Watching the performers onstage, all I could think is what an exalted actors dream show this must be. In musical theater, they always tell you don't belt and don't overstep your co-stars. Never before have I seen a musical revue take all the rules of musical theater and break them so blatantly and still shine. Imagine if Rent were a striptease show that was about half as long and with blindfolded topless cowgirls on saddles swinging over the audiences head you'll have an idea about what "Peepshow" is. The story of Bo Peep isn't going to win any literary awards anytime soon but that's certainly not what we come to Vegas for.
"Peepshow" Sunday-Tuesday and Thursday and Friday at 9pm, Saturdays there are two shows at 8 and 10:30pm. After Monday May 30, 2011, "Peepshow" will be moving from 9 to 9:30pm starting time on all shows besides Saturday. "Peepshow" is dark on Wednesdays but can be seen the other six nights of the week at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
