Pellet Stove Guide

With all the recent hype about alternative energy sources and protecting the environment, more and more citizens are employing the "think green" mindset. "Going green" not only benefits the environment, but it benefits individual budgets as well. One of the things that is becoming more and more popular now is the pellet stove.

Pellet stoves are an alternative heat source and are similar to the old fashioned wood stoves from the 1800s and early 1900s except that they run off of electricity and are fueled by pellets rather than wood. The pellets that feed their fire are made from recycled sawdust, corn, nut shells, and other biomass wastes and are, therefore, eco-friendly seeing as how they don't use as much wood and help protect our trees. Plus, pellet stoves are much more budget-friendly that central unit heat. The annual cost of using a pellet stove to heat your home is about $1500 less than using central heat to heat your home. That's quite a difference, and it's even greater in colder places where you have to use more heat. The only major cost of a pellet stove is its initial cost, which, for a good pellet stove, ranges between $1500 and $3000 plus about $500 installation. With the money that you save from not using regular heat, it quickly pays itself off. Then the only other cost you have is the annual fuel costs for the pellets, which usually ranges between $130 to $200 a ton, and most homes only use between one to three tons a year.

In addition, using pellet stoves comes with other benefits too. Not only are they eco-friendly and budget-friendly, but I have found that they're easy to operate and maintain as well. Some pellet stoves are different but I will describe how to operate an automatic one. To operate a pellet a stove, you first pour about one cup of pellets into the chute, which will allow them to fall into the burn pot. Then you push in the ignition switch that will cause a flame to ignite, much like a gas heater or a gas grill. Then you may adjust the thermostat on the pellet stove to how warm you would like it. Simple as that! Plus, when using a pellet stove, it's important to keep it maintained by cleaning the burn pot, heat exchanger, etc. and by emptying out the ash drawer, hopper, etc. Your pellet stove instruction manual will come with complete details about the best way to do this with your model.

That is how to use a pellet stove and its benefits. They are economically friendly, budget friendly, and user friendly. They are one of the best alternative heat sources and are becoming more popular every day. I would highly recommend a pellet stove to anyone seeking to help the environment and save money.
