Pelosi's Speech Turns the Tide

Finally Some Sense in Washington-No on Bailout Plan!

Rose Richmond
I came in and signed in the internet to see "DOW DROPS OVER 600 POINTS-NO BAILOUT AGREEMENT"! My very first thought was damn, our 401k probably just lost a chunk of money. Then I thought, "Hell Yeah"! It worked. The millions upon millions of Americans who are tired of Government Crap, stood up and told them , "Not No But Hell No!"! They actually listened to us for a change.

As Americans across the country are reading the news, there will be mixed reactions. In my opinion, we will survive. I think that sometime in the very near future we will see some type of deal made. They have created such a mess with all of the laws that allowed it to get this way to begin with. I think the ripple effect of just not doing anything, isn't going to end anytime soon. So they will more than likely have to do something. However, Wall St. wants a Free Ride and they are going to make it look bad so they can keep their jobs. Even though they have helped create this monster.

Good for the majority who voted it down, they didn't just jump today. The sane of the bunch Nancy Pelosi, definitely not John Boehner, were concerned enough about their jobs to stop for a second and say no. He blamed the rejection on her. He said her speech at the beginning was the reason it failed.

Here are a few excerpts thanks to Guardian,uk.com:

"When was the last time someone asked you for $700bn? It is a number that is staggering, but tells us only the costs of the Bush administration's failed economic policies - policies built on budgetary recklessness, on an anything-goes mentality, with no regulation, no supervision, and no discipline in the system."

"Democrats believe in the free market, which can and does create jobs, wealth, and capital, but left to its own devices it has created chaos."

"Democrats insisted that legislation responding to this crisis must protect the American people and Main Street from the meltdown on Wall Street. The American people did not decide to dangerously weaken our regulatory and oversight policies. They did not make unwise and risky financial deals. They did not jeopardise the economic security of the nation. And they must not pay the cost of this emergency recovery and stabilisation bill."

"Today we will act to avert this crisis, but informed by our experience of the past eight years with the failed economic leadership ... We choose a different path. In the new year, with a new Congress and a new president, we will break free with a failed past and take America in a new direction to a better future."

Way To Go Nancy Pelosi! Way To Go Majority Who Voted NO! Thank You From The American People.

The American people have spoken here and that is a wonderful thing. This is the Internet Revolution at it's best. The Internet has given the average American much power. Power over the crooks that have been in charge for so long. The Government heard you America!

As an Internet savvy American, you can voice your opinion as well as let the people in charge hear those opinions more often and faster than ever before. Having the ability to obtain their emails and phone no and fax numbers so easily, gives you the power to help change this country. Never before in our history have so many had so much access to information about the Government and the ability to communicate directly.

As we all brace for what may be a long, cold winter, it is important to remember the efforts of each one of us as Americans on this day. If you were one of the many hardworking, honest Americans who have played by the rules and you didn't want the burden they are trying to shove down our throats, you probably sent that email or fax or made a phone call or signed a petition. Remember your efforts here! It can be done!

Thank you for your efforts. Thank you for bringing back your share of the American Spirit that lives in us all. Our country was founded on basic principals. Work Hard, Stand Up for What You Believe, Live Honestly, Help your neighbor and look to your God for guidance. You can change the direction of government. They can't continue to hide and make bad decisions. Now that you see what you can do America, don't stop here!

Many of our ancestors stood and died. Many stood and won. Freedom and the American Dream that they fought for, so that we would have what we have today, did not come cheap or easy. It was bought with blood, sweat and many, many tears. We don't have to bleed, we only have to write, call and get involved. We can fire all of them over the next 10 years and replace them with people who want to do right for America, not screw us over.

While we weather this storm that is brewing here, I as an American pray that we will pull together and stand for what this Great Country has stood for since we took it from the British in 1776. Times Get Tough, The Tough Get Going! God Bless America!

Unfortunately, thanks to no oversight, coziness with industry and just incompetence, we cannot emerge from financial disaster without a major infusion of revenue to 'rescue' banks. Solvency of our banks is a cornerstone of our monetary system. The Bush Administration and Paulson were heavy-handed in not allowing mortgage protection as part of the package (it now will be), but a bail out has to happen. Our savings, our homes, our retirements, are worthless without financial stability. Going forward there must also be strict oversight or we will just fall into this pit that greed and basic immorality caused. Always feeding the top, looking the other way at fraud, making the taxpayer and homeowner suffer all the consequences - it is reprehensible; but it's done and we can't fix it without money coming in the door.

If they were facing a tought re-election fight, they often voted "no." I just wish my dear departed Dad was here to offer insight and explanation. A long-time banker, he predicted another Depression his entire adult life, following the first one. He'd be saying, "I told you so" right now, I fear.

I'm not sure I want to know what my portfolio looks about, right about now. After the AIG fiasco, a $2,000 inestment had sunk to $300. I'm no financial expert, but I do think that SOMETHING has to be done before the entire stock market collapses, as it has done once before in history, taking with it every dollar I spent my life saving (and every dollar everyone else spent their lives saving). Hardly seems fair or sporting, does it gang? The breakdown on the vote I saw says that it was, indeed, Nancy Pelosi's partisan pre-vote speech that queered the deal. I'm not sure how I feel about that; I want the government to work, Republican and Democrat doing whatever is in the best interests of the American people, for sure. However, it appears that the vote broke down not only along party lines (to a lesser extent than usual), but also over who was up for a tough election and who was not. If the individual was not facing a tough fight to get re-elected, they often voted "yes." If they were fi
