The design provides maximum high and low attenuation and minimum resonance. For you non-physicists, attenuation here is the flow of sound through the headphones. Thus, although the earmuffs do not provide any electrical "noise canceling" technology, as their product description suggest, they still effectively reduce noise. The term "noise canceling" is a misleading misnomer, as the earmuffs simply reduce noise.
Weighing in at 1.6 pounds with soft ear pieces, the Peltor H10A Noise Canceling earmuff is also very comfortable. I use my pair for every conceivable occasion. Hearing protection is imperative for an array of activities, ranging from mowing the lawn to playing an instrument with an amplifier to using power tools. I always carry my pair of the Peltor H10A earmuffs in my car, because they are rather compact and lightweight. They are even perfect to wear around the house, to eliminate everyday annoyances such as the whine of a computer, noisy neighbors and roommates, and barking dogs. The earmuffs do not provide an unsafe amount of noise reduction, either. That is, loud noises, like from that of a fire alarm, can still be easily heard.
However, with the reasonably cheap price comes a lack of durability. Although one would expect a product intended for use in tough environments to endure tough treatment, the earmuffs prove rather fragile if dropped. However, whenever I have dropped them and they have fallen apart, they are easy to put back together. The great noise reduction and price makes up for this small defect.
If you top this pair off with a set of ear plugs, you can achieve up to 50 decibels of noise reduction for extra protection. This method could be especially useful at the shooting range. The Peltor H10 Professional Noise Canceling Earmuff is versatile enough to use at all locations on all occasions. In addition, the price is moderately reasonable as far as earmuffs are concerned, compared to higher end models that electronically cancel noise.
