Pen of Immortality

Scott Bauer
As thy mortal eyes

Cast their humble gaze

Upon the empty paper

It beckons and calls to me

Images of blankness

Shadows of light

Brilliant rays of darkness

Leap and pour from the white sheet

Faces, and time itself

Move defiantly under its supple tension

But allows the outlines and concepts

Of absolute genius and a madman's sanity to show.

Again a line divides them, as a hasty butcher's blade.

To the unknowing this is issued

As a warning and a challenge

If thy has one sprig of humanism in thee

Let these meager ink lines into your mind

And loose every notion and belief

Onto any empty white, blue or pink lined paper

Let your mind rule your hand

And never let another take or transplant your ideas

Before they are forever preserved onto parchment

A true way to achieve immortality

For the fountain of youth flows from every pen.
