It could also be a suitable place for visitors, who might want to get away from the Strip and find a place in the local environment to eat at a very reasonable price. The cost is $6.22 all for their all-you-can-eat buffet - less than half of what you might spend at comparable establishments. They do have a sign that says to "not waste food, in order to keep the prices low." I can certainly understand that and I don't know why more buffets don't put one up.
Penda's Buffet is located in an old K-Mart shopping center, with the K-Mart and most of the other businesses closed down. Although the surroundings aren't that attractive, the restaurant has a homey feel when you enter inside. There are Chinese people who prepare and serve the food, and a Chinese decor that provides a nice effect.
You may want to start with the salad - they have a lot of fresh vegetables laid out on the table by the wall, including lettuce, carrots, tomatoes and a lot more. Buffets such as this provide an excellent opportunity for healthy eating and you can get your daily allowance of vegetables. Although I'm tempted to dive right in to the tasty hot food, I like to start with a salad.
Now, I'll tell about the "main course" entrées. Penda's doesn't actually have little signs saying what everything is - just their style, I suppose. However, here are just some of the items they have:
Orange Chicken, Deep-Fried Chicken, Fried Rice, Noodles with Great Sauce, Chinese Style Mushrooms, Beef and Broccoli, Sweet & Sour Chicken, BBQ Pork, Diamond Fish, Egg Drop Soup and Chicken Wings.
Penda's has a nice selection of drinks, including a variety of soft drinks, coffee and tea. There are also ice cream, cookies and other delights for dessert, although I'm not real big on pastries or sweets.
One thing I always check is the cleanliness of an establishment, and from what I can tell, Penda's measures up. The plates are spotless, the tables are well-attended and the servers seem to have good habits.
This is just such an enjoyable place to stop when I'm in the area, which happens to be fairly often.
