For varying reasons, everyone at sometime in their life may find themselves alone and without others to enjoy life's pleasures. This is especially true for those in the 'baby boomer' age set. Perhaps you have relocated, are recently divorced, or simply working at home. Whatever the reason, you want to meet other like-minded people. If you live in Washington state, you have a group started especially for you. It is known as the Peninsulas' Singles Boomer Zoomers.

I joined this group by reading a Craig's List posting. The listing stated that an activity group was being formed so others have someone to enjoy events with. I, personally, was tired of wishing I had more single friends. This group seemed right up my alley. It has proven to be a great hunch!

Known as a singles activities group, it was started in August 2007. The group has already grown to over 200 members, a testament to filling a much needed niche. It is intended to bring members together, with the majority living on the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas.

Peninsulas' Singles Boomer Zoomers have a wide variety of activities to become involved in. All activities are posted to the group's website located at Meetup.com. Whenever a member wants to organize an event, they simply post it to the group's online calendar. Members must be classified as an Assistant Organizer to post events, though. If they are not considered an Assistant Organizer, all they have to do is contact someone who is. That person will post the event to the Peninsulas' Singles Boomer Zoomers calendar.

Once becoming a member, each member has a profile page. They can control how they want others to contact them. Members can communicate with each other via email, post shouts on each others' profile, post to the group's message board, conduct polls, etc. This is all done via the group's Meetup.com website.

Activities have been very diverse. Dining, camping, dancing, and whatever else members choose to organize are events put on the calendar. The monthly birthday celebrations are always fun. This group is known for their laughing and wanting to just have a good time.

The first Christmas Party was a hoot! One of the members hosted it at his house, and the venue was perfect. Our group had a wonderful potluck and white elephant gift exchange that everyone loved!

Other activities on the Peninsulas' Singles Boomer Zoomers calendar include: hiking, snowball fights, movies, concerts, combined jazz concert with meal, theatre, and game nights.

What is so nice about this activities group is the fact that every event is conducted online. Members post an activity and others RSVP. Members can also bring guests, which is nice. Many of first-time guests have become full-fledged members. How nice! Reservations are made, if needed by the sponsoring member. It's so easy and fun!

The only drawback to this group, I believe, is the fact that it is done online. If someone does not have computer access they may not find this group. They could know a member and join, though.

This group has helped many members find friendship, laughter, and support at a time when they needed it most. It is much more than a singles activities group.
