Pennington Battles Former Team

Dolphins vs. Jets

Fourth Down
It all started in the year of 2000 when Bill Parcells, then with the New York Jets, drafted Chad Pennington in the first round at the 18th overall pick. Pennington had a winning record but never became the super star that everybody thought he might be. Parcells eventually left the Jets organization and Pennington battled injuries missing significant game time over the next couple of years.

Now with it being 2008 and on the verge of another season, Chad Pennington was looking to win the starting spot for the opener against the Miami Dolphins. That all has change due to one man wanting to come out of retirement.

Brett Favre retired from the Green Bay Packers at the end of the 2007 season. At the start of the 2008 camp,he decided he wanted to come back and play at least another year. With a long drawn out process, Green Bay decided they did not want Favre back in cheese head territory, ending a 16 year career in Green Bay. Favre was forced to look for a possible trade and was sent to the New York Jets.

In return to Brett Favre's signing,Chad Pennington was released. There were many doubters saying Pennington was washed up and finished. Then came Parcells and the Miami Dolphins calling. The man who drafted Pennington in 2000 is the same man who gives Pennington another chance in 2008. Pennington signed a 2 year deal worth a little over 11 million dollars thanks to Bill Parcells.

So Favre in New York and Pennington in Miami, brings us to September 7th. Look to the schedule of either team and you'll see they will play each other at 1 pm on CBS. This will be the day Chad Pennington gets to battle with his former team. A chance to see if Pennington's release and Favre's signing was worth it for the Jets? An opportunity for Pennington to get revenge on the team that released him? Possibly, we will just have to wait until September 7th.
