Pennsylvania Labor Department Supports Kate Gosselin in Her Quest for Work Permits

Pat Bartels
There is some controversy over the decision of the Labor Department in Pennsylvania issuing work permits for Kate's sextuplets. Apparently state representative Thomas Murt raised questions about the legality of the permits.

According to Murt Pennsylvania law does not allow children under 7 to work in movies but does not mention television. Kate's situation is a little different as the children are working in television, and they work out of their home. The sextuplets are six years old. These children have been doing this for years. What's the big problem now? You would have thought that if this were illegal someone would have said something before now.

The permits are being required to protect the children from working too many hours and to insure that they are paid.

I usually don't have much of an opinion when it comes to celebrities. I don't watch this show very much, but I do enjoy it when I occasionally tune in. Up until now there haven't been any problems with the state. Although, the state has said that, permits should have been obtained previously. Now that Kate is a single mother it would certainly be a shame if her means of support for her family was taken away. Can you imagine what it will cost to send that many children to college? Yikes.

It looks as if the Attorney General has the final say. In support of the permits the Department of Labor and Industry say that the children are not being exploited. So we'll have to wait and see what happens. I can't imagine that the Pennsylvania Attorney General won't back up the other state officials.

Children need to be protected. It just doesn't seem that this television show would be something that would harm Kate's children. If you don't agree with her putting her family up for public viewing, don't watch the show. My husband won't watch it because he doesn't like reality shows. He thinks that this type of show is pretty stupid.

As for me I find it mildly amusing. Kids are cute and have always been a big draw on television. I would think that any mother in her right mind would protect her children from exploitation and working too hard. After all they aren't working in the coal mines.

I don't watch the program, so I don't know what goes on, but can having movies taken of you while you live and play in your home be considered work? I hope that whatever money she's making is going into a fund for her kids.

I have never watched the show, and never will. This woman has exploited her children from day #1. She has plenty of money and would have more if she did not have a face lift, and more done to her. If she put aside all of the money those kids earned, instead of spending it on foolish things for herself, they would have a lot of money when they are ready to go to college. She is, like many of the young movie starts of years ago, spending her kids money and relying on them to make the money. Who would watch the show if it did not have the children? Anyone? she made a fool out of herself on Dancing with the Stars. She did it just for the money. Add it up, do you make as much money as she does in a year? not even in a lifetime. Do not shed tears for this very self centered mother. She is far from being on the unemployment line. And, hey, she gets child support from her husband also.

I get a bad feeling that she's making money off them.

I've seen the show, and the kids are adorable. But I am also mixed on this. They've been filmed in the act of being potty-trained, for heavens sake! If nothing else, it's an invasion of their privacy. I know that the family bought that huge house with the proceeds from the show, and I only hope that the rest is being put away for the children themselves.

i'm mixed on this--the entire situation for the kids is sad. I hope they will get some of the finance from all this media one day--it's the very least they deserve.

I hope she DOES put some of the money away for the kids...it would be a shame for another scandal to come out.

If the state objected, it's ridiculous that they haven't said anything before now.

I think the state should stay out of it. The permits are only a means of gaining revenue anyway.
