What Can Here to Help Do for You?

The economy is struggling in every aspect. When the economy struggles, that means individuals and families struggle. The unemployment rate is soaring as more workers are being laid off every week, leaving families with even less resources to try to make ends meet.

Pennsylvania launched a new web site called Here To Help. The site states on the main page 'From meeting basic needs for food and shelter to upgrading professional skills to find a new job in a high-demand industry, the commonwealth has a wide variety of programs to help people get through the tough times'.

Right now are the toughest of times in decades. The new web site has many features to help almost everyone in at least one aspect of getting by during a recession.

In addition to links on the site to the State Government Agencies, you will find an abundance of helpful information related to work, money, food, health, and even insurance.

Some of the highlights of the site are as follows, along with the web site's description:

Unemployment Benefits - 'Learn about the program that provides temporary income to qualifying people who have lost jobs through no fault of their own.'

Food - 'If you do not have enough money to buy food for yourself and your family, you may be able to get a Pennsylvania ACCESS card - it looks and works like a debit card at the grocery store. '

Heating- 'With a little knowledge and a little action, you can be protected from the cold and your heat can last all winter. Financial help may be available as well.'

Utilities - 'Find out what to do if you can't afford your electric, gas, phone or water bill.'

Health Insurance - 'See if you or your children qualify for low or no cost health coverage.'

Job Search & Job Training - 'Unemployment hasn't hit Pennsylvania as hard as the rest of the nation yet, but the distressing fact is that some Pennsylvanians are losing their jobs. The commonwealth can help link you with employers, find training, and more.'

Mortgage Problems - 'There are several options available to struggling homeowners. If you're behind on your mortgage you must take action. The problem won't go away.'

Veterans' Services - 'There are programs for families of active duty personnel, Persian Gulf veterans, older and disabled veterans, and many others.'

Taxes & Tax Breaks - 'See if you qualify for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit or Pennsylvania's tax relief or tax forgiveness programs. Find out if you can have your taxes done for free by a trained volunteer who can help you claim specific credits.'

The Pennsylvania CareerLink has been available to unemployed workers for many years. An abundance of Pennsylvanians knew where the physical location for their county or city was located, but they did not realize there was a web site where they could search for employment, and even apply, from home.

The state has also launched new programs for struggling homeowners. Here To Help points to this web site, Your Money's Best Friend. The state also has launched two new programs aimed at helping those who are facing foreclosure, or struggling to keep their home.

Pennsylvania offers individuals and families the ability to screen for benefits, apply for benefits, and renew benefits all on one web site. COMPASS will enable you to apply for most Department of Public Welfare programs, all on the same web site.

Pennsylvania has always had an abundance of programs and help available to those who find themselves and their families in need. Unfortunately, many state residents have been uninformed about the abundance of services available to them.

The new site will bring all of these services, and more, together in one place. Here To Help features links to nearly all types of state help and aid that an individual may be looking for, or need.
