Pennsylvania's Great Alpaca Farms

Pennsylvania--Great Alpaca Farms

Gwyn Guess
Pennsylvania has dozens of alpaca farms and about 10 listed in the directories on the web. Climate here is not stressful on the animals and they really love the highland areas of the state. These animals are becoming more and more viabile as a way to create an alternative lifestyle that will also provide a decent living and income opportunities that only grow with time. Can your 401K do that for you?

I think any search on the web for alpacas will turn up a tremendous amount of relevant information that will show how much interest there is in these animals and the opportunities to purchase a farm. The money to be made from them is from multiple income streams. But there are also tremendous tax savings to be had by buying a farm. Many of them will sell alpacas to individuals and will board and even breed them for you, so you can grow a herd as you begin to unwind from the stresses of a revolving door of work stresses. Lots of the farmers were just like you when they began and will make arrangements to finance a purchase of one of their stock animals. Just check each farm, try to visit, and by all means get as much information as possible. I've looked at several ranchers in Pennsylvania and found some that look interesting.

Silver Cloud Farms is owned and run by a young couple that founded the business in 2000, which gives them good longevity in the galaxy of alpaca farms countrywide. Today they have a herd of over 50 Huacaya alpacas after just a few short years and they're obviously dedicated to getting the best stock and to helping future buyers and farm-owners. They announce on their web site about a very active auction taking place this fall in Pennsylvania, Sept. 7th and 8th. They sell fleece and stock from their farms and the web site is one of the most extensive I've ever seen for any state. These folks should be on any Pennsylvanian's list for contact, if they're contemplating serious investment in this business. Contact them if interested.

Cool Creek Alpacas is not as large a farm as Silver Clouds, but it has its own merits. They too began in 2000 and have accumulated 15 alpacas pm their farm in Lancaster County. They vend fiber and also yarn, plus they sell breeding females and studs. I have found that prices around the country are pretty much in line with each other. Realize that these people had to buy their stock and paid handsomely for them. Buying from supportive alpaca promoters will usually guarantee continuing support and benefits. These folks also have yarn classes for people who want to spin their own. Lots of links and help here.

Dream Come True Alpacas says it all. These people know how that's a drawing card for others who just want to purchase some stock, have it boarded and bred, or to get their own farms. They offer brokerage services, breeding services, and even business plan services. These folks are true professionals, obviously committed to the whole alpaca industry countrywide. The should be a good resource to visit and for ongoing consulting with budding farm owners oaver the country. It's a great web site everyone should save-even those not in Pennsylvania.
