We then both decided to adopt a puppy from our local humane society. We like the idea of saving a puppy and bringing him into our home for our son. We proceeded with the search on the Humane Society's website and found two lab/boxer puppies name Diesel and Tank. Upon arriving at the shelter we found out that they had just left the facility!
Heartbroken and disappointed we were about to leave when my fiancée says let us just go in and look around and let a dog find us, rather than us find a dog. He was completely right about the dog finding us! As we enter the room of overwhelming barks and cries from both puppies and dogs, I spot a 1-2 year old Pitt bull, almost decided to get him out and let him interact with me when I spotted this rambunctious pit-bull/pug mix about 4 months old in the cage next to the bigger pit reaching out and stealing his toy. In complete amazement that this little pup had no fear of the bigger pup I knew he was the one!
Not actually thinking we would be able to take a puppy home the same day, my fiancée and I didn't stop for puppy supplies prior to arriving! The process was of buying our new puppy was so quick and easy we were in and out of the humane society in less than an hour. We spent a total of $150 dollars on our rescued puppy and that included the opportunity to get him neutered for free upon appointment.
I would recommend The Indiana Humane Society to anyone who wants to rescue a puppy/dog and make them one of your own. The people/staff are very helpful and friendly; they take care of the animals with expertise, and truly care about all animals that come in the door. A little something I did not know about this place was that they have the right to refuse to sell you a pet if they feel you would not be fit to take care of it. Good to know that they use their better judgment rather than risking the fact that the animal might end up right back in their care!
Our puppy is black and white, a pup/ Pitt-bull mix and will be 1 in June. A big part of our family, and my little baby, as he gets spoiled each and every day because we are blessed we found such a great dog!
The Humane society allows you to email them specifics you are looking for in a pet and they will notify you when such an animal arrives!
Obviously they have an adoption section as well, but they also offer the opportunity for a person/family to foster and animal until a permanent home is made.

Emily! I don't believe in not buying or adopting an animal just because of the breed, the behavior of the animal is reflected by the behavior of its owner!
I have to say "thanks" for not laetting the pit-bull label stop you from adopting a great pet! So many people are afraid of the breed. I have friends and family who own pit-bulls and they are the sweetest dogs, yearn only for affection. As for the Humane Society, they are awesome. My daughter is an animal behaviorist and she volunteers at the Humane Society in Orlando. She told me that they also will not let a pet go home with someone who they feel is not a good match. They strive to prevent the animals from coming right back. Enjoy your new baby!!!

Jack, Thank you. I wouldn't trade my puppy "Duke" For anyother dog, I love him like he is my other child! He is unique thats for sure, but so am I so he fits right in!
Good reporting Michelle. I think the Humane Society ought to be the first place to find a pet. That's what we have always done. Excellent reporting and a great recommendation. Well done, as usual for you friend.
