People Poetry: the Check Out Clerk

Kelly O'Neil
She is a very nice young person
Her job is at the local store
Your purchases which way ton
She checks out near the door

Sometimes you do not notice her
You're talking on your cellphone
Her look is really quite demure
Her thoughts to you are unknown

But if you knew all that she knew
You soon would brightly blush
Cuz she knows secrets about you
To a different store you ought to rush

She knows those days when you buy wine
Each month it's at a certain time
And when your man is out of town
She knows if you will run around

She eyes your purchases with impassivity
But takes account for kicks
And in the break room gets quite witty
About your obsession with chick-flicks

Since she knows 'bout your firming cream
You should be much more pleasant
And though unaware she may seem
She knows off of the diet you went

So say hello, and be so nice
And hope that she tells know one
Your perfect child has head lice
And shampoo you're running low on
