PEOPLE.COM HEADLINE: Rihanna & Chris Brown Are Back Together

Stephanie Modkins
People Magazine (online) is now reporting that singers Rihanna and Chris Brown are back together. Here's what they posted:

The pair have reunited almost three weeks after Brown, 19, allegedly battered the "Umbrella" singer on Feb. 8, a source tells PEOPLE.

"They're together again. They care for each other," says the source. The on-again couple are currently spending time together at one of Sean "Diddy" Combs's homes, on Miami Beach's Star Island.

Adds the source: "While Chris is reflective and saddened about what happened, he is really happy to be with the woman he loves."

Needless to say, this story is surprising, especially after the alleged police photos of Rihanna surfaced on TMZ. To say the least, they were horrific. She had bruises on the side of her temples, a busted lip and swollen eyes. It was obvious that someone did a rope-a-dope on her. So why reunite with the person who allegedly did it?

It's sad to say, but Rihanna's behavior is typical of a victim of domestic violence. They often return to their abuser because he or she manipulates them into thinking things will be better in the future. Organizations like Help Guide documents the cycle. It's the mindset of the abuser and how it fluctuates toward more domestic violence. It goes as following: abusive behavior, guilt, excuses, normal behavior, fantasy and planning of more abuse, abusive behavior. If this is true, what has been allegedly going on with Chris Brown over the past few weeks is similar to this cycle. Here's what's been reported in the news over the past few weeks:

Sun, Feb 8: E! online headline, Chris Brown Arrested After Alleged Rihanna Assault

Sun, Feb 15: CNN headline, Chris Brown Says He's Sorry For What Transpired

Fri, Feb 27: MediaTakeOut headline, Insider: Chris Brown Will Claim . . . Self-Defense

(Need I say more?)

If the headlines from these news entities are true, Chris Brown is (allegedly) setting Rihanna up for more violence. The situation is so insidious he probably doesn't realize it. The only plus about this whole thing is that Chris Brown is supposedly taking anger management classes. Maybe this will cool his chops.

So, the Chrianna sag continues. Hopefully, it will have a happy ending because the last thing we all need is another talented couple that reminds us of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. Although they are no longer together, their legacy of dysfunction lingers in our minds.
