'People's Choice Awards': The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Big Night (Full List of Winners)

For the fifth consecutive year Queen Latifah reigned over the 37th People's Choice Awards as host. She opened the show with a musical production number of "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz. With reckless abandonment from the host, presenters and winners, plus a heavy dose of cross promotions with sneak peeks of upcoming films and products there was an award show going on somewhere in between.

It has been a very long time since I last watched the People's Choice Awards. I found it too chaotic, ill-prepared and amateur-ish back then. It has since slightly improved. Not all sub-categories were shown in the live telecast from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. We did see a number of winners from all of their major categories of television, movies, music and web.

"Twilight" and the Queen

"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" was the big winner of the night winning the coveted Favorite Movie. Rather than having separate awards for a film, show, artist, actor, etc. that won more than once they clumped them all together. It was hard to hear what else they won or there wasn't enough time to announce them all. That part was extremely ill-planned by the show's producers. Personally I enjoyed Queen Latifah's unique spin on hosting the People's Choice Awards. She did what she wanted to do within the boundaries and enjoyed herself in the process. Queen Latifah didn't take herself too seriously.

Cross Promotions and Favorite Viral Video Star

Talk about ridiculous cross promoting throughout the awards show. The only one that was truly worthwhile when Vanessa Williams spoke on behalf of the Special Olympics. It seemed to go on and on with products being incorporated into the program as it was a commercial within the awards show itself. Talk about being bombarded with ads.

I'm sorry, but I did not get the winner for the Favorite Viral Video Star with them singing "Single Ladies" and the little girl crying. Quite frankly this was the most annoying part of the entire show. If that wasn't bad enough, they had a van from the People's Choice Awards drive up to their home to present them with a substitute award made out of a "cross promotional" product. To top it off with more cheese they had the family at the Nokia Theater onstage with the substitute award partially eaten, along with their bad acting skills. Spare me, please.

Thankful for the positive highlights of the People's Choice Awards

It was good to see Elton John as a presenter for Favorite Country Artist. Of course I had to sit and wait until the one and half hour mark when they presented the Favorite New TV Drama. They were still voting for this category and Favorite New TV Comedy during the show with another cross promotion added in there. I am not joking.

Naturally it was all worth the wait when my favorite TV show "Hawaii Five-0" won. It was great seeing the cast and crew on location in Hawaii via video with their acceptance speech. Another one of my favorite shows "Glee" won a number of awards. One thing that shocked me was the lack of live entertainment. Only two performers sang their newest releases.

With all the criticisms aside, it was nice to see an award show devoted by the people. Hopefully a lot more clever improvements need to be made for next year. Be sure to check out the entire list of winners, televised and those not televised.
