Looking for something to do with the kids, friends, or the significant other this spring? In the Peoria area, warm-weather fun can be had at any of the five miniature golf courses. They range in age from decades-old to brand-spanking-new, and offer varying amenities. Depending on your interests, you may find something else to do at the course after your game, or you can always grab a bite at the snack bar. So, here's a quick round-up of your local options.

Kartville
(309) 676-3628
919 N Swords Ave
Peoria, IL 61604

Open 7 days a week, from 10am to 10pm.

Kartville is a Peoria institution. With its go-karts, dune buggies, bumper boats, and batting cages, it's a kid's (or big kid's) paradise. The miniature golf course is fairly small, and is very old-school. There is also a snack bar, and Kartville offers group discounts on rides and mini-golf.

Wee Tee Golf
(309)692-8912
5200 North Hamilton Road
Peoria, IL 61614

Hours: Monday - Thursday 9am till 10 or 11pm; weekends till 11pm
Wee Tee is also a well-known Peoria course that offers batting cages, as well as a driving range. It's visually appealing; the walk-in cave is especially cool, and the conveniently-located restrooms are much appreciated. There are soda machines outside, and you can buy a candy bar at the counter.

Mt Hawley Castle Golf
(309) 692-0727

8200 N. Hale Avenue

Peoria, IL 61615

Hours: M-F 7 or 8am till 10pm; Sat., Sun. 11pm

This course is outside a bowling alley, and every scorecard has a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for a game of bowling. Mt. Hawley is lots of fun, with its castle theme (hence the name), and lots of vintage-looking multi-colored lamps that give it a great feel at night.

ROC Ice Cream and Golf

220 Farmdale Road
East Peoria, IL

Spring hours (hours change seasonally):

Hours: M-TH 5-9 PM

Sat. 12-9

Sun. 1-9

ROC has an immaculately-maintained, compact course, meant to simulate a putting green, with lots of water & rocks and a waterfall. The course and the facility are very clean (helped by the fact that it's a fairly new business), with an air-conditioned dine-in snack bar where they sell smoothies, ice cream, pizza, etc. ROC is very family-oriented, even religious; in fact, a Creationism poster hangs in the snack bar, and Christian music is the standard listening fare.

Hillcrest Golf Center1829 Washington Rd.
Washington, IL 61571-2109
P: (309) 444-9033
F: (309) 444-7744

This is a no-frills, kitschy little mini golf course, which is, fortunately, reflected in the price. Another advantage is the fact that the course is covered by large, old trees that help keep it cool. Hillcrest also contains a golf course and driving range, as well as a golf shop.

I've enjoyed each of these courses for different reasons, and I think you'll find that there's something for everyone's taste, whether you're looking for a super-modern spot, or an old-school charmer. Now get out there and play!
