Upon opening, Pepsi is more refreshing, I must admit. It has more carbonation to it, which allows it to "taste"colder, and is a preferable cola flavor in that it isn't too sweet. Coke, by contrast, has more of a natural citrus aftertaste and has less carbonation to it upon first opening, making it have a warmer "taste" when you first open it. Compared side-by-side upon first opening, Pepsi takes the cake as far as a fresh, crisp cola flavor.
Where Coke totally takes the cake is in lasting freshness and carbonation over a few days. The Pepsi within 3 days obtained a flat flavor, which made it taste more like a syrup and unfavorable to drink. Even though it was ice-cold, it was disappointing to pry open the tightly closed lid and not hear that tell-tale fizz, and after taking a few sips it gave me the flavor of having been left open on the counter all night and then placed back in the fridge.
The Coke, on the 3rd day, had the same intense carbonation and freshness that it had upon first opening, and was a refreshing, eye-watering drink. On day 7, the Coke tasted like it had just been opened, while the Pepsi had gotten so flat and sweet it was hardly tolerated. Coke, in the end, retained its carbonation and fresh cola flavor so well that I was able to finish the entire bottle 7 days later with vigor, while the Pepsi got a few tentative sips and was then thrown away. If you want a beverage that will maintain its original freshness after a few days, go with Coke. But if you want that instant great cola flavor that you will finish right away, Pepsi is your better bet.

Post a Commentdon't like either but love my zevia with stevia soda
I am a faithful tea drinker.
I love your notes on source material :) I prefer Coke and probably always will, but not so much that I'd turn down Pepsi :)
I am a Pepsi girl all the way, but I have cut way back.
I agree that Pepsi keeps longer, flat Pepsi also tastes better than flat Coke.
Good work:) We prefer coke if we have soda
How interesting
I stopped drinking soda at home years ago - but if we're out - it's Coke for me, too :) cheers
Interesting experiment. Personally, I don't like Coke or Pepsi unless they are fountain. I like root beer the best. :)
