Christy and Laura Both Like Brandon
© 2000 re-told by Debbie Dunn. This story is based on an idea given me by one of my former 7th Graders.
This Conflict Resolution story is based on an idea shared with me by one of my past seventh-grade students about two girls who liked the same guy.
"Hey, David, did you hear what happened at our middle school today?"
"No, Sandy, what happened?"
Sandy said, "There was a serious problem with Christy and Laura."
David said, "Oh, yeah! I did hear about that. Boy! Christy and Laura were really mad at each other because of Brandon."
Sandy said, "Yeah, Laura walked up to Christy and said, ... .
Laura snapped, "Christy, why do you always try to go out with everyone I like?"
Christy defensively said, "I don't."
Laura said, "Well, I like Brandon right now, and you're trying to go out with him."
Christy whined, "I didn't know you liked him."
Laura kind of growled as she said, "I told I told you last week."
Christy said, "Well, I guess I forgot. Too bad!"
David said, "So they are having a big problem."
Sandy said, "That wasn't the best way to solve a conflict."
David said, "I agree. Let's think of a better way they could have handled the problem."
Sandy said, "Okay. After Laura found out about Christy and Brandon, she could have approached Christy calmly instead of being so rude."
David said, "Yeah. The next day, Laura could walk up to Christy again. This time, she could say, ... .
Laura walked up to Christy and said, "Sorry I was acting so rude yesterday. It's just I really like Brandon."
Christy said, "Sorry I was being so rude too. I just forgot you liked him. I told him just to forget about it today."
Laura said, "Thanks. You're a good friend."
Sandy said, "That was definitely a better way to solve a conflict."
David said, "Because Laura and Christy worked together to be peacemakers, they found an outcome that was a WIN-WIN."
