Perez Hilton Celebrity Blog Charges $4,000 Per Week for Ads, Selling Ad Spots on Your Blog
Celebrity Blogger Perez Hilton Makes More Per Week Selling Blog Ads Than Many Make All Year!
When you think of making money off a blog, most think of Google adsense, affiliates like CJ Junction, Amazon and Ebay. But the fact is the really big money to be made with blogs is selling ad spots.
To highlight just how much more you can make selling ad spots directly to sponsors, consider how much Perez Hilton makes in a single month with his celebrity blog.
Now it's no news that many celebrities hate Perez Hilton for his sharp tongue and personal attacks. But the fact is Perez Hilton's celebrity blog gets over 13 million unique visitors per month!
Personally I think his blog looks horrible. It has no borders so ads look like they are hanging out of the page. Ads on one side run far more down the right side than the one on the left.
Perez Hilton's blog post are pretty boring too, very short and often only 150 words or so long. Plus what's with that white paint he puts on all the pictures!
Yet millions of people a month read Perez Hilton's blog to get the latest celebrity gossip and read what biting remarks he has for his latest celebrity victim.
Because so many read his blog, he can sell ad space on his sidebars and ask amazing amounts per ad. For example, on his ad price page, it shows you can buy a 150 pixel by 200 pixel high banner for one WEEK for $4,000.00!
If you want to get a 150 by 600 pixel high banner, you have to come up with $10,600.00 per week! So if you count up the different size banners and text ads that is on his blog right now, he makes over $100,00.00 per month.
I think I would be happy with that! Notice he does not use Google adsense or any other normal affiliate programs. He doesn't have to! He doesn't even fill up his sidebars with ads, leaving lots of space.
Now most of us are never going to be that successful with blogging. The point I'm trying to make is that many never think about selling ads directly to companies or sponsors.
Yet if you get enough traffic that can pay off better than any affiliate program. It does not take all that much traffic either. I have a blog that gets around 3,000 uniques a day, and I sell a few ads to sponsors.
But most bloggers will need to be getting over 5,000 unique hits a day before you can try to sell ad spots. Also remember that you can make full pages with blogging software like Wordpress.
I have turned some of my blogs into full sites just using Wordpress blogging software. That gives you much more area to sell things online, as well as ad space.
A sponsor will be much more interested if they can buy a full page ad, or a page in your blog just for them. For example, I have a tourist blog that is slowly morphing into a full site, made by Wordpress.
Once I get enough traffic I will make a full page for local mom and pop motels. I should be able to charge each one to be listed in that page.
Same goes for limos, smaller attractions, florist, the list is endless.
However in order to get lots of traffic to your blog you need to have a subject that is popular enough to generate lots of traffic. Having a blog on local schools in your hometown is not going to cut it!
Pick a subject most people in the world has an interest in, or at least in your country. In Perez Hilton's case he went for one of the most popular subjects of all, celebrities.
So if you ever see your getting over 5,000 unique hits a day on your blog, think about selling ads in your sidebar directly to companies and sponsors. Visit other blogs and websites in your niche and find out how much they charge for ad spots.
Your not going to make another Perez Hilton celebrity blog, but maybe you can get popular enough for Perez Hilton to write about in his blog!

Post a CommentI have never been to Perez's blog before today b/c of your article. Wow, I don't see what's so interesting about it. He sure knows how to sell himself though b/c I've seen him quoted all over the place. Thanks for sharing!
Interesting article, I have to check out his blog.
This is great info, Bill. I still haven't figured out how my article about the Slim-Fast recall ended up with a link on his blog somewhere, but I'm happy to be getting 50-80 hits from it each day, even a few weeks later. Without that, it would have got hits the first few days then died out, like most news.
