Perez Hilton Reports False, Jaclyn Smith Not Near Death from Suicide Attempt

Despite rumors to the contrary, former Charlie's Angels actress Jaclyn Smith is apparently NOT near death as a result of a suicide attempt.

Rumors of a suicide attempt by Smith and a gunshot wound were circulated today on the internet, mainly due to a false article in Honduras newspaper El Heraldo that she had attempted suicide in that country.

This led blogger Perez Hilton to post the rumors on his Twitter account and then post a blog entry on Perezhilton.com titled "Jaclyn Smith Apparent Suicide Attempt! Charlie's Angels Alum In Critical Condition!!!!"

A big problem with the reports is that according to her publicist Jay Schwartz, quoted by TMZ.com, Smith is not even in Honduras but is in Los Angeles.

"She is alive and well in Los Angeles ... I spoke to her this morning," Schwartz told TMZ.com. He repeated the information to Entertainment Tonight.

Additionally Jaclyn Smith used her Twitter account to deny the reports. Her Twitter page message read: "Jaclyn is safe and home with her family. She is not in Honduras. It is a lie."

Perez Hilton posted two Twitter post and a blog entry about Smith's supposed suicide attempt in Islas de la Bahia in Honduras, claiming that the Honduras newspaper report validated his updates. According to Hilton, Smith was airlifted via helicopter to a hospital in San Pedro Sula with a gun wound in her head.

"Smith is in critical condition. Our thoughts go out to her and her family," Hilton wrote on his blog.
He posted an update featuring the El Heraldo story writing, "This report from a local newspaper in Honduras confirms what we are hearing."

According to jaclynsmith.com, Jaclyn Smith is a 61-year old American actress best known for playing the role of Kelly Garrett in the 1970s television series Charlie's Angels. She was the only actress to be featured on every season of Charlie's Angels. She starred in over 30 television movies and has marketed her own brands of perfume and clothing.

Born in Houston, Texas Smith studied acting at Trinity University. She was recently the celebrity host of the Bravo TV reality show Sheer Genius in 2007 and 2008.

Perez Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira, is a controversial blogger and television personality known for covering gossip and scandals about celebrities and entertainers. He once claimed that he had discovered that Fidel Castro was dead and broke the story on his blog, only to have to retract it when Castro appeared in public very much alive.
