Perfect Cape Cod Vacations

Going to Cape Cod in the Fall

Kate OLeary
The fall may be the best time to vacation on Cape Cod. You have all of the benefits of the Cape without the amount of visitors and tourists that you see in the summer months. The first thing you want to do is to determine if you want to rent a house or if you want to stay in a hotel. The reality is that renting a house on the Cape is the best way to go the prices, especially in the fall are very reasonable, and you can find houses that sit right on the ocean or one of the many lakes that dot the landscape of the cape.

A house will give you a place to spread out. You will be able to cook your own meals and watch what you want on television without having to fight with your spouse or your children. Having a kitchen at your disposable is excellent. The seafood on the Cape is some of the best in the world and is very easy to cook. It is much less expensive to have a four person lobster dinner at home then at a restaurant and you can sit around in your shorts and your sweatshirts using your arms as napkins. Along with being able to buy fabulous seafood on the Cape in the fall you will continue to have many options from the farmers markets. Tomato's, fresh green beans, fresh herbs and big beautiful tomatoes right out of the garden.

All of the stores that cater to the summer time tourists will still be available in the fall. You can rent bikes for the week and ride the bike trails buying supplies for picnics at one of the many small stores or delicatessens that dot the path. Plan to take a drive up to Province-town and plan to spend the day. Go on a whale watch. The best times are early morning or sunset these are when the whales tend to be the most active. Most whale watchers last about four hours and it is wonderful to be on the open ocean looking for whales and seals and other sea animals. After the whale watch walk up the street ot Spiritus Pizza in my opinion the best pizza on the Cape. Order at the counter and then bring you meal out back to the patio. People watch. This is one of the best parts of a visit to Province-town is the people watching and it is an activity that is still in full force in the fall.

There are a number of hikes that you can take while vacationing on the Cape in the Fall. One of the best is at the National Seashore. You start at the information building and walk a little over two miles through a stunted forest and a marsh before you step up and are blown away by the view of the never ending Atlantic Ocean.

You can also go and see drive in movies, check out the numerous museums and art shops that are open. Book a fishing excursion or just grab a great book and go down to the water and look out and count your blessings and begin to plan your next vacation. But beware that after a week at the Cape you may decided it is the place where you find your peace or a part of your soul. Before you know it you may be thinking of spreading the Winter, Spring and Summer at the Cape along with the entire fall.
