Perfect Creation - an Earth Day Poem

Perfect Creation

Rachael A. Lund
Perfect Creation
lovingly formed
by the hands of God
a garden of beauty
beyond comprehension
how I long to have been there
to see it
to touch it
to breathe it in
to walk in the deep fragrance
of a million colors
blooming all around me
to gaze upon
the handsome boughs
bearing their luscious fruit
to feel the dew
on the velvety grass
beneath my naked feet

but now Creation weeps
as fertile plains
become barren wastelands
how Creation groans
at it's own destruction
as the inhabitants upon it
strip it of it's beauty
and cover it with refuse
Creation trembles
as those who call it home
ravage and abuse the land
leaving behind desolation
where animals
won't even choose to stay
a world oppressed
suffers by the hands of mankind
longing to be free
from those that defile it's purity
